If it was required by state law, I would think it has happened.

I can say with absolute certainty that no Democrat Governor has ever filled a vacant Senate seat with anyone not of his own party. I can't say the same of Republicans without doing the research.

When they thought that J Forbes kerry was a shoe-in for the Presidency, the MA legislature passed a law that they pick the Senator not the Gov. They didn't trust Romney to do their bidding.

Add this to your research:

What happens if the two elected Independent Senators, Lieberman and Sanders, are added to the mix. Keep hearing 51 Democrats and 49 Republicans. Thats 100 Senators. Where are they????? I know, not on the subject, but interesting.

I believe Dr. Reid and Dr. Schumer have been directed by the family to keep him on life-support apparatus indefinitely... should the situation arise.

Dead and disabled democrats have been voting in elections for years - I don't see why they can't vote in Congress.

The TV interviews are rather boring, though.

Both independents promised to caucus with the Dims (Lieberman made it the center of his candidacy, and would not have won without it). So they're counted among the 51 Democrats.

They're democrats. They can call themselves whatever they want but they caucus with the 'rats, they vote with the 'rats and for that they get plum committee assignments and the GOP gets the minority.

Thanks for the answer. Kind of scary since some of the Rinos are more Democratic than Republican and hope they just don't consider the same. Seems not right, but they when does Government do anything right.

Besides the Democrat Gov of Georgia appointing a Democrat to fill a Republican's seat, it also happened in PA.
In 1991,when the Republican Senator John Heinz of Pennsylvania ( Teresa's first husband )of was killed in a plane crash - Democrat Gov Robert Casey ( Senator elect Bob Casey's father ) appointed a Democrat ( Harris Wofford ) to fill the Republican's seat until a special election.
Wofford won the special election in 1991 and served out Heinz's term until he was defeated by Rick Santorum in 1994.

Here's a list of all appointed senators since 1913.

I don't know which of these Senators were appointed by governors from the opposite party. Will keep looking.

Just part of the corrupt/liberal "Two-Party Cartel". As with the Supreme Court I have stated since GW was elected that when he left there would be no true conservative SC. Now I would luv to see a lib justice retire & I will then be able to prove my theory. Big ticket items will always go to liberalism. A small bone is then thrown at the conservatives & they fall for it each time.
