Revealed: Israel plans nuclear strike on Iran (actual article, not teaser)

ISRAEL has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons.

Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear “bunker-busters”, according to several Israeli military sources.

Under the plans, conventional laser-guided bombs would open “tunnels” into the targets. “Mini-nukes” would then immediately be fired into a plant at Natanz, exploding deep underground to reduce the risk of radioactive fallout.

“As soon as the green light is given, it will be one mission, one strike and the Iranian nuclear project will be demolished,” said one of the sources.

The plans, disclosed to The Sunday Times last week, have been prompted in part by the Israeli intelligence service Mossad’s assessment that Iran is on the verge of producing enough enriched uranium to make nuclear weapons within two years.

Q: Why can Israel do this and we can't? A: They don't have Democrats to undermine them trying to defend their country.

If they were really planning this, it shouldn't be in the newspapers. I hope it's not just bluffing to get Iran to negotiate.

There is a sort of beautiful poetic balance and natural symmetry with nuking the nukes.

If only Jimmy Carter had dealt with Iran when he had the watch.

I believe they have as many self-hating loonies, but they only have to be wrong once to lose their entire country / existence. Israel is a tiny place, relatively speaking. No "overs".

I hope it wasn't "leaked" to incite Iran to nuke Israel first.

Typical idiotic media hype, taking military contingency plans of the sort that every single country in the world has on file and using them to terrify people with inflammatory headlines.

It's stories like this that make people hate the media. Disgraceful.

However, American experts warned of repercussions, including widespread protests that could destabilise parts of the Islamic world friendly to the West.

Gotta love the clueless "experts". Israel better be careful or the arabs and muslims may not be their friends anymore. It would be terrible if Israel and the US lost any of those wonderful friends.

In reality, I think Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf emrites will be doing handsprings and backflips celebrating the destruction of Shia Persian nukes.

It isn't a job for mini-nukes, but for something in a more respectable range. If the iranians are not complete idiots, the openable entrances are seriously offset from the actual facility.

Maybe it was a story planted by Iran. This was one of Hitler's early strategems, inventing a reason to attack, then do it. First villainize, then victimize.

You may have just hit on the sad truth.

Less secret now, I presume. A pox on the media enablers of rogue terrorist states.

So now do Russia and or China issue covert or overt threats to Israel on behalf of Iran? GWBush ain't bugging out of Iraq, not when the main attraction is yet to come

Why can Israel do what? Draw up secret plans? You can bet we have secret plans as well. Countries draw up all sorts of contingency plans and options. That is NOT the same as the headline implies as "planning to strike". Crappy editing.

I think this is where the Iranians need to plan a little vacation far away from the nuke sites

I have little doubt such a plan exists. But the fact is that militaries plan for ANY NUMBER of contingencies. This results in a wide range of plans--some serious, some not. Most sit on the shelf and will never see the light of day.

Unfortunately, we are at the point where Israel may have to do something drastic like this to survive. If Iran gets nukes, Israel will be nuked--no question. Probably via a Hezbollah rocket. The messianic maniac in Tehran cannot be deterred. Despite the stakes, I doubt that Olmert has the cohones to carry out such an operation.

Isreal won't do it this way: They will secretly eliminate each scientest who the Iranians have hired to make the bomb.
Result; tons of yellowcake and no boom.
