Back in the 1980s when I was on Active Duty in the Tidewater area of Virgina, I was a dedicated listener to WNOR FM radio in Norfolk. They had a bunch of insane DJs in those days, like Henry "The Bull" del Toro, who did all kinds of memorable things like:
**The "Hiney Winery" commercials..."Located in beautiful Butts Station, in Chesapeake"; that had people calling the station for directions constantly...
** Coverage of the Lorena Bobbit trial, where Henry tried to broadcast live from the steps of the Courthouse in Manassass, while handing out tee shirts carrying a portrait of John Wayne Bobbit reading "Love Hurts", and handing out free pieces of sliced weenie...they lasted about 3 minutes before the Deputies ran them off...
**The April Fools stunt where the Morning Team announced at rush hour that Mount Trashmore had an enormous methane gas bubble building in it, and that the City of Virginia Beach was evacuating the area...that backfired when someone thought it was real, called 911 and triggered the real thing...
Another regular feature was a set of recordings from what was purported to be the amatuer "Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra", from nearby Portsmouth, Virginia, that was an off key slaughter of a purported classical music piece, that was hilarious to listen to.
I have tried contacting the station to see if there is a recoding available to no avail. I have searched every musical source I can find on the 'net for any kind of copy of any of the Portsmouth Symphony, and I cannot find it anywhere.
Anyone remember this one?
Anyone have a source for a digital copy of anything from that genre??
Wikipedia - Portsmouth Sinfonia
I believe Portsmouth in UK, not Portsmouth VA.
