Trans-Texas Corridor PING!
I'm deeply suspicious of the TTC. The fact that Purty Boy Perry is pushing it makes me even more suspicious.
But..but...but...we need a quick way to get those guest workers to the punch clock in Minnesota!
I support this bill.
Texas Governor Rick Perry welcomes you to the Trans-Texas Corridor toll booth, please exit your vehicle and drop your pants. Failure to exit your vehicle and submit to your vaccine will result in your detention. This is for US citizens only so if you are in the country illegally Governor Perry and President Bush ask you to please proceed.
I would ask why, but then again it wouldn't matter...Right???
If you and I got a chance to vote on it, we'd cancel each other out...
Its not personal from my standpoint, I have just "not" seen one single thing about this from wayyyyyy back when it was one of those "under the political radar" projects that would convince me that this is something this entire country would need...
See, there's this trend in local, state and federal government that is looking for "new" ways to generate revenue, and opne of them is this trend to lease out existing infrastructure (i.e.: roads and other facilities) to anyone, foreign and domestic, to run, maintain and make money themselves for multiple years, just to give govenrment a little more juice to run on and spend, without anyone elses input or opinion...
Never mind the project further risks our earned soverienty and security by opening up more ports of entry into the country (wayyyyy inland now), when we cannot effectively secure what we have on hand now...So that alone in my book is just one of the things I have that deserves to torpedo this entire project right now, before they spend and organize too much without even a public referendum to give any green light to proceeed further...
But, if you have something, I would surely love to hear it...And I'd be glad to talk about it...
Besides, my state senator informed me (this last Thursday evening) that he (and a group of other senators) want to stop this thing rioght now anyway...
Lemme know what you think...Not looking to disrespect your opinion at all...I'd just like to see what you got...
All your Mexico are belong to us.
I have a better idea: drop the highway portion and build only the high-speed rail infrastructure. It's time we began supporting rail over motor traffic in a big way.
However though I am no fan of sprawl I suspect that the state will be better off with the TTC than without it.
I do not think we need this much road, much less a toll raod. We pay enoughin taxes adn have a $14 billion surplus in the state coffers.
"According to the pro-Trans-Texas Corridor organizations Web site, 75 percent of Texans directly depend upon Interstate 35 for goods and services, and 45 percent of all Texans live within 50 miles of the roadway. "
One reason so many people use I-35 is because there is no alternative.
TXDOT and the-powers-that-be in DFW insist on routing all north-south traffic through the Metroplex to Oklahoma City instead of building alternative NS highways from San Antonio/Austin to Wichita Falls and Oklahoma City and from Houston to Tyler-Paris-Tulsa-Kansas City.
So, when I-35 is near capacity, what is their bright new idea? Build another road paralleling it and charge tolls to use it. Same old, same old, concentrating traffic so that congestion and pollution plague the middle of the state and the rest of Texas is underserved.
Stupidity. They refuse to listen to the masses who voted against our arrogant governor last November and who tried to tell TXDOT during so-called public hearings last summer that it's a terrible idea.
stevie, I think hydro agrees with you. He supports the bill to kill the tollroad, if I read his post correctly.
le kewl!
ttc = crooked.
Opps...
I interjected too soon...Sorry Hydro if I misunderstood you...
My apologies Jedidah, and thanks for pointing that out...
I'll go crawl back into my hole and pull that big rock back over me...;-)
cheeky!!! love it!
Please, please . . . no crawling into holes! Get out there and ask all the right questions and let the big wigs know how us little folk feel.
Thanks for the ping!
BTTT
