Two suspected members of a German left-wing terror group which took part in some of the most notorious hostage dramas of the 1970s have surrendered to authorities after 19 years on the run.
Federal state prosecutors in Karlsruhe said on Sunday that the two suspected members of the "Revolutionaere Zellen" (RZ), or Revolutionary Cells, had given themselves up in December.
RZ members helped Carlos the Jackal take ministers hostage at an OPEC conference in Vienna in 1975. Two RZ members were killed in July 1976 when the Air France plane they helped hijack was stormed by Israeli special forces in Entebbe, Uganda.
The group emerged in the early 1970s from the radical left-wing scene in Germany, which also spawned the Red Army Faction (RAF), also known as the Baader-Meinhof gang.
According to the website of the Interior Ministry of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the RZ were responsible for at least 295 attacks between 1973 and 1995.
German weekly magazine Der Spiegel reported that the two suspects were "a couple"....."

That's what it was: a "scene." A fad. A hip new urban mode with a cachet of Danger and Purpose. What it meant was people dead, lives ruined, and a world aflame.
Now that the kitsch is gone, after a lifetime on the run, these slime are ready to meet justice.
Of course, we'll hear the usual blandishments from the media and the pinko fellow travelers: they should be forgiven; they've paid their debt; they were just innocents caught up in an insane milieu.
There should be no mercy for these wretches. If Saddam Hussein hanged for his crimes, so should they.

Some things to remember: the PFLP was originally called "Black September" (anyone know any major terror events occurring in that month?), the PFLP was trained and funded by the Soviet Union (including Carlos the Jackal), and the PFLP gleefully recruits orthodox jihadists for suicide missions despite the PFLP being an athiestic, communist front.
It's worth noting that by being agressive...taking the war to the terrorists in Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Liberia, Iraq, the Philippines, etc...that we are gleening intel that is rooting out older terrorists who would otherwise have managed to remain on the run.
I just went and read the whole thing.
What a tragic story...I hate reading that it is still an open wound. I pray that with these terrorists hopefully, eventually behind bars...the Netanyahu family and the comrades of Yoni will be able to put this behind them.

"scene" -- what an *odd* turn of phrase. Peculiar. Almost places belonging to a gang of 1970s terrorist thugs on par with the contemporaneous Punk Rock *scene* or the Discotheque *scene*.
Is *that* what bored German youth were doing at the time? One shudders to think. Forty years previously I guess they had the Nazi scene to keep themselves busy. Nature doth abhore a vaccuum.
So now, I guess, we have the Al Qaeda *scene* to go along with our Emos and our Goths... just one more antisocial diversion for our bored youth to get involved in. But it certainly explains the David Hicks thing.
