Sean Barrett has seen a lot in his four years at Harvard. Hes consistently been among the top Crimson finishers at various regional meets since his freshman year. Hes seen coaches come and go. Hes competed with and against formidable tracksters across New England and beyond. Now hes getting ready to embark on a journey that will show him more about himself and his world than he could ever imagine. Barrett has joined the U.S. Marine Corps and has committed, initially, to serving four years.
Its a decision that seems almost incongruous for a bright athlete from the Ivy League. Barrett, the second of five children from San Diego, Calif., feels strongly that hes made the right decision.
I think this is my generations greatest calling, said Barrett. Fighting for the freedom of others is a uniquely American value. Protecting my family, my country, our values and way of life is of the utmost importance to me.
Neither of Barretts parents is involved with the military. His older brother, a law student at the University of San Diego has committed to serving in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps (or JAG) upon his graduation. Barretts younger sister, a student at Boston College, is enrolled with the Army ROTC program there. For Barrett, the War on Terror has posed a moral imperative.
This isnt something thats going away, said Barrett. We have to win.

God speed young man. Thank you for serving our country.
Ditto. And let's see if the lame stream liberal media even mentions this story.
A brother headed for the JAG corps, a sister in Army ROTC, looks like the whole family is. They're an inspiration for people everywhere.
That's exactly why I posted this.

He gets it!
The fact that this is a news story at all shows how bad things are at Harvard (and many other schools). I mean, it's such a rarity for someone at Harvard to love the country enough to want to serve that it's actually turned into a news story. Amazing.

Even Democrat Harry Truman would agree. He sent Americans overseas to liberate South Korea.
Truman didn't cut and run when 3,000 Americans died (which was 5 weeks into the conflict). Within 30 months (the remainder of Truman's presidential term) 30,000 Americans died in Korea.
This statement says it all about what they think of those of us who chose to serve our country.

Then we get a Lt. Ehren Watada...... a complete opposite.

A True Patriot.
GOOD NEWS PING!
Dear Sean,
Hope you enjoy the Island and earn your EGA.
Ooorah!
It is nice to read stories such as this one. Yet another patriot doing what must be done.
