I believe Homosexuality is an addiction and needs to be treated as such, with therapy.

Last May, Mr. Larsen, 28, began seeing a therapist in Jersey CityThat is said to be the first step to curing mental illness: admit you have a problem. It is criminal that this sickness was politically changed to "preference" years ago. Think of the deseases and social turmoil that could have been avoided had treatment been available.

I found this article totally credible until I read Rev. Haggard and his miracle three week gay conversion to straight. I absolutely hope that others do indeed get the help they need if they feel they need too. I have no respect for Haggard who was forced to go to therapy because he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. A huge difference between these other guys trying to change their lives in my opinion in my opinion.

I did not click on to read the entire article, but from just what is up here in the opening paragraphs, I am appalled (as usual) at the NYT ongoing war with Christianity. Every single time they print one of these things, it is about some tortured Christian. All the buzz words are contained in this opening, so why do I need to read another downer about the evil Christians? I don't.
I'd just like to know some background on writer Michael Luo.
Has he ever met an atheist homosexual? It seems that nobody in the MSM ever has!

The efforts to rein in homosexual desires run the gamut from those that take a completely secular counseling approach to others that are completely spiritual. I remember reading about a third way that acidhead-guru Timothy Leary championed a few decades ago. He'd give the patient a very large dose of LSD and place him in as isolated/quiet/comfortable an enviroment as possible. Then when the patient started "peaking" on the drug (the best time to imprint upon the brain, Leary maintained) he'd send in a bunch of hot, naked chicks to "cure" the homo.
I suspect he got a lot of straight volunteers for this experimental therapy ;)

I gotta say, for the NY Times this is very even-handed.

According to the Old "Gay" Lady, trying to help someone break out of same sex attraction is "controversial therapy" while encouraging someone to give in to their perverse desires is somehow proper therapy.
Par for the course. It's hard to see the Light when you've got your head up your @ss.

"Although the scientific community cannot say definitively what determines sexual orientation whether it is nature or nurture..."

Nice try, NYT...
It's not in Nature's best interest to create life that does not have the drive to reproduce itself. Dysfunctional nurturing and a society that condones homosexuality creates homosexuality. Too many homosexuals, as I understand it, come from broken homes for there not to be a cause and effect relationship.

Ah, the "Closet of Jesus" approach. Good luck to him, but if all of his previous praying didn't have any effect what makes him think that this round will?
