At least six colonies required people to have guns with them at church. Church officials were required to check parishioners when they arrived for services to ensure they had a gun. Clergymen were required to have guns, too....

towns such as Kennesaw, Ga., Greenfeld, Idaho and Geuda Springs, Kan., which all require residents to own gunsI'd be curious to know what the crime rate is in those towns. Probably lower than, say, D.C.

I was on my high school rifle team, in the 70's, and as far as I know the rifle team still existed in the 80's. I don't suppose it is still there, though. We stored the rifles at the school (the school-owned ones anyway) and carried them all around the campus and back and forth to the range which was at the local Guard armory.
Nobody ever thought anything of it.

A few years ago, after reading the book
SHOOT BACK about the terrorist attack on the Church in South Africa I began to carry in church every sunday. A Sig P245 (45ACP),IWB with a spare magazine. I went ten years before I found out that a member of my IDPA club is an elder in my church (BIG Church) and he carries his 45 in the same manner. With the full knowledge and approval of the pastor.

My uncle (who's only 11 years older than me) was on his HS's rifle team in the mid-1960's. He carried his rifle to school on his shoulder, and put it - with ammo - into his locker. So did all of the other members of his team. Not one of them ever shot anyone, or even threatened to do so. Further, no one even looked at them cross-eyed for carrying rifles in public.
Oh, BTW, this was in Queens, NYC.

In 1966 after a hunting trip upstate, a friend dropped me off in the Bronx and I rode the subway home to Brooklyn with an uncased 30-30 Winchester carbine at 10:00 p.m., with no problems at all.

"In our day, only about 45 percent of households own a gun.."
In OUR day, only 45 percent of households ADMIT they own a gun. I have a bunch, want to get bunch more. They are as American as apple pie.
The anti-gun crap came from Europe - along with other politically correct garbage like equating "sexual preference" to ethnicty and race, cameras at intersections, etc.
