Helen Thomas chatted with young [National Press] Club members over breakfast March 13 and with characteristic bluntness dismissed President George W. Bush as a chief executive who has made little contribution. The legendary White House correspondent, who has covered every president since John Kennedy, was acerbically critical of the Democratic Congressional leadership as well. Even at this stage in her long career, Thomas, now a syndicated columnist for Hearst, pointed out that she still depends for information on other journalists. “I’m reading newspapers every day like you are. And as eager as she was to take questions, Thomas was just as quick to bounce them back to her young listeners, asking them what they thought about the issue before she gave her answer. “Public officials are fair game,” Thomas advised, and Bush is no exception. When asked what the president’s biggest success was, she replied: “He’s made no contribution … I suppose he’s nice to [his dog] Barney and Laura.” She also castigated the freshly-minted Democratic leadership: “I think the Democrats are chicken … get out [of Iraq] yesterday…I want us to get back to our honor … What is America? What have we become?” A young member asked what Thomas thought was the story going unreported. She replied: “The biggest story is the denial of our civil liberties, the e-mails, the wiretaps … Get angry when you see an incursion on our civil liberties.”

The only reason she disdains the Democrats is because they are too nice to Bush. It is her deranged hatred of the President that colors all of her other judgements.
I don't think her regard for Dems is "equally low." But she is correct that the Dems are chicken.

I suppose there HAVE to be people like Helen Thomas. Otherwise, we wouldn't appreciate the America-loving among us.
By the way, isn't Helen's background Mid Eastern? Or do I have her mixed up with some other America hater? (Not that EVERYONE in the Mid East hates us, just the ones that want us to fail in the WOT.)
I suspect that it all comes back to Florida 2000 for her. She knows in her heart that George W. Bush stole the Presidency, and she hates him for doing so.
Truth be told, I would feel the same way about Algore if he had managed to steal it.
The problem with Thomas' position is that George W. Bush won Florida 2000, no matter how you slice it.

By a vote of the participating networks, Helen Thomas has retained her front-row seat at White House press conferences, despite lacking a major media employer or being unable to ask "questions" that are nothing but hateful, left-wing screeds.
She has demeaned chickens. How dare she. Where is PETA when you need them?
I would rather be around chicken "droppings" than Helen Thomas, even on a ht July day in South Georgia. At least you can get used to the smell from the chickens!
