Gathering of Eagles: Anatomy Of A Con Job

As we know, opinion against the war in Iraq, and against President Bush, now stands at between 60 and 70 percent in America. If you’re a right-wing authoritarian follower, how do you continue to prop up the necessary belief that you represent a silent majority of downtrodden patriots, and that someday a real rain will come and wash the scum off the streets?...

I still support America ,Because I know that I can make a poll say anything I want it to.We really do not know how many Americans do or do not support the war on terror and all its aspects,to include Iraq, because we do not have an HONEST poll. When we do, then we will know, not before then.

They can't stand anyone opposing them. While the GOE was in DC, we were in Fayetteville giving them grief:

We were successful because one of them wrote this to the Raleigh newsrag:

Somehow my little 1500 watt system overpowered their 5000 watt system.

Most Americans oppose defeat and support victory.

Most Americans dislike war, and want to avoid it, when possible.

There is nothing contradictory in these statements. I hold these positions myself, in fact.

60 to 70 percent? I find that very hard to believe. I think they must mean the media , who would be 80 to 90 percent against. Being a normal (I think) regular guy, my heart tells me the left is really grasping now days for anything to support their way of "thinking". If you can call what the left does as thinking.

Wonder how many Americans support a full blown regional Islamic civil war in Iraq that spreads throughout the oil rich Middle East ? How many Americans support undergoing gas rationing to support this full blown Middle Eastern Regional War ? How many Americans think that forcing Israel to defend itself with nuclear weapons is a sound foreign policy ?

There's probably less chance of that happeneing now with Mr. Regional Conflict himself (Saddam) out of the picture.

I think the point the dems and idiot bloggers miss--is that a high percentage of people "against the war," are against the way it was/is being waged--not the fact we're fighting.
If the PC shackles were removed and we fought a war as a war, there would be much more support.
They miss it and are invested in defeat.

Certainly there is less chance with Saddam out of the way but that doesn't mean there is no chance. If the U.S. leaves before the Iraqi government is able to sustain itself and protest its people someone else will step in to fill the void we leave. Who? Iran? Syria? Al Qaida? All of the above? It's not a pretty picture and whatever the outcome it would surely spill over to other countries in the region. It would lead to the necessity of our further involvement with even more force sometime down the road to protect our interests in the region.

What is in our best interest now, which seems to be lost on the Democrats and Chuck Hagel, is to do what is necessary now to insure a stable Iraq security and leave when the job is done. If our leaders showed unity on this we could even be done and out by their make-believe date of Sept 2008.

Nooo way I'm endorsing a pullout. I was just replying to a fellow who seems to have embraced defeat pretty early in the morning.

I want to see a poll that asks:

Do you want to surrender Iraq to the terrorists?

Yes
No

When the Iraq veterans were taking turns at the microphone explaining why they could no longer support the war, those across the street were using their bullhorns to call them chickens. There were about six vets, and although the taunts were incessant, each vet was disciplined and sincere.

There is a lesson here about supporting our troops. You do not support our vets by calling them chickens.

The vets were followed by the families of our troops in Iraq. One of the mothers was crying as she talked about how this war had destroyed her son. And how he died. As she paused to regain her composure, the heckles from those across the street came loud and clear.

That one mother being Cindy! This is precious. He thinks all of the Vets screaming at him were not very respectful of the Troops in Iraq because they disrespected him and his buddies who were providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

Six Vets and perhaps one or two more of their buddies that is. And one was smoking a cigarette. Now that was disrespectful.

True. Saddam is gone, but the number 2 power projection force in the region, Iran, has stepped up to the plate. US forces are definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place. If the lefties would just let us fully drill for oil in Alaska and off the coast of the US, we could pull out completely with little pain.

If our leaders showed unity on this we could even be done and out by their make-believe date of Sept 2008.

Note the significance of that date and how it coincides with the next election cycle. The drafters of this legislation apparently are more concerned about their upcoming elections and sucking more money out of the economy to fund those elections.

These creatures of the left know that the American public is largely ignorant and fickle. If the war effort in Iraq appeared to be winning and successful that supposed 70% would turn around over night. Fickle people like winners! For most, the war is like an athletic contest; you go with the winner. That's why the left is so invested in our defeat there.

Why pullout? I think we'll negotiate with the Iraqi government for a long-term presence, be it an Air Force base in western Anbar or a naval base at Um Qasr.

Like it or not, the US military is still the most stablizing influence on earth. A big US base in your back yard tends to dissuade your enemies.

You are wrong, we are not in Iraq for oil, but to promote freedom and democracy!
