Philadelphia - A travelling exhibition on King Tutankhamun drew about 50 protesters in Philadelphia who denounced the popular display as racist.
Molefi Asante, a professor of African-American studies at Temple University, led the demonstration on Sunday outside the Franklin Institute, claiming the exhibit has no mention of Africa and that it suggests the ancient Egyptian king was white.

Yes, they were brown-skinned North Africans, as distinct from sub-Saharan black Africans, which is what he meant
Sumtheeng lyk thatt.
Horus bump
I agree - I remember seeing it in an exhibition in Chicago when my parents brought us out there for just that reason (we lived on the other end of Michigan) - maybe 25-30 years ago. I remember being very young, but very awed by it.
My hubby had a South African co-worker over 10 years ago who actually did that and the interviewers got the shock of their lives when she walked in the door.
Which begs the question (to which we already know the answer), do all these stupid hyphenated PC labels refer to a country of origin, or do they simply refer to skin color? See here for clarification.
That means blacks should pay Jews reparations for slavery...
No pictures of the Batman villian?
MAGNIFICENT POINT!!!
They were held in bondage for over 400 years... then had to break out for the promise land... could this mean it's the black Egyptians fault that Palestinians and Jews have been fighting for thousands of years?
Professor Molefi Asante needs to chill out. These traveling museum exhibits are canned like spam.
The originating museum (here, the Cairo Museum) puts the whole thing together and describes the circumstances that the receiving museum must exhibit it. The purpose of the traveling exhibit is to have a show to attract people to the museums that rent the show. The benefit to the originating museum is it gets a nice fee for renting out its stuff.
The Cairo Museum decided how to depict ancient Egyptians, not the Philadelphia Museum.
Sharpton once said Europeans were “living in caves when ‘we’ built the Pyramids.” This is laughably false. His ancestors were throwing spears when they were enslaved by those built built the Pyrmaids—the Arabs, who were Semetic—NOT Negroid.
They were Arabs. Arabs are not "black" any more than are Sephardic Jews. American blacks have about as much in common with them as they do with Moses. Which is to say--nothing.
This is not worthy of news coverage, but knowing the media, they will inflate it.
This is your sixth post since signing up today. Every one of them has a Chris Ruddy link that has nothing to do with the article. What are you doing on FR?
These people have way too much free time on their hands.
“King Tut was white, and bore a remarkable resemblance to Steve Martin.”
Steve Martin himself called the King his “favorite honkey”. If that doesn’t make him white, I don’t know what does.
What Race Were the Ancient Egyptians?
...."Race is a social construct, not a scientific classification," Robert S. Schwartz, M.D. wrote (in "Race Is a Poor Measure," New England Journal of Medicine, Vol. 344, No. 18, May 3, 2001). "Any attempt to establish lines of division among biological populations is both arbitrary and subjective."
Works for me.
Indeed. Cairo is at the southern tip of Illinois...;-)
