Is "White Guilt" causing the Pesident to support THIS immigration bill

First before you read this understand I am asking for opinions not knee jerk reactions. Before you chalk me up as a troll research the war your self!

I was wondering what part “White Guilt” is playing with President Bush’s support of the immigration bill. He was the governor of Texas. I support him 100% in that we need to stay in Iraq (fingers crossed that surge works) But I am stumped as to why he is supporting this bill and shooting harder at his base than he has ever shot at his political foes

I was watching a History International Special last night on the Mexican American war.

One of the things I have always prided myself with is my knowledge of American History. I thought I had a good handle on that. What I was hearing from the special was disturbing. I chalked it up to media bias and the fact this was History INTERNATIONAL. However I have always told my children to research on their own, so I googled and came up with this site: http://www.historyguy.com/Mexican-American_War.html

Correct me if I have the facts wrong but the US took half of Mexico by force because we felt it was our God Given Right. Basically America and more specifically President Polk. picked that fight because he along with a lot of Americans believed in “manifest Destiny "; the belief that America had a God-given right, or destiny, to expand the country's borders from 'sea to shining sea' ).

I wonder if Bush sees this as a way to “pay back” what he feels as ill-gotten booty….I now see where the illigal immigrants signs of reconstitur (spelling) come from. It definitely was a piece of history I didn’t know.

I don’t know why GWB supports this crappy bill or amnesty for that matter. Could it be because of his sister in law?

It is not his “white guilt”, it is strictly the fact that he was never a borders, language, culture kind of guy.

IMHO, I believe this is more about a strategy to keep Venezuela & Cuba from taking over the political system in Mexico & securing future oil contracts w/ them.. but that’s just a thought.. still doesn’t make it right.. (and I know I’m probably completely wrong on this.. I just don’t buy into the NAU, NWO, Buildacheesburger argument...)

Nope, they picked a fight because Mexico was conducting military operations in Texas.

With the annexation of Texas in early 1845, war with Mexico became all but inevitable. President James K. Polk hoped to settle matters peacefully but was determined to have his way by war if necessary. In November 1845 he sent John Slidell to Mexico with an offer of $5,000,000 for the purchase of New Mexico and $25,000,000 for California. The offer was refused. On May 9, 1846, word reached Washington, D.C. that American troops had been attacked by Mexican forces on April 4. Polk asked Congress, and was granted, a declaration of war. Congress authorized the president to call for 50,000 volunteers and appropriated $10,000,000. Congress and the nation, however, were far from united on the idea of waging war. Southerners favored war as likely to extend slave territory, while notherners opposed the war for the same reason.

It'd be a lot of things, but I doubt that "white guilt" is one of them.

Given the current makeup of congress, I think this bill is probably about as much as we can expect.

Bush is following his marching orders.

What does “white” have to do with it?

I don’t think so at all, but it is a good question. He’s had lots of time to ponder this, and I’d imagine he’s actually read Mr. Steele’s book on the subject. President Bush was a mentor to young African-American boys in the the late 60s, early 70s, so I’m pretty sure he’s over any race anxiety he may have had as a young person. Just a guess;) I think it has more to do w/ his perspective on christianity.

It is more likely that he is advancing his version of Manifest Destiny, of combining all of North America into one country. The fact that the United States of America will be destroyed in the process, does not seem to bother him.

Thanks for that info...your site doesn’t say anything about Manifest Destiny..I had never heard of it prior to last night...any other History folks out there??...was this just a term derived later or was there an actaul feeling in the country at that time...and not just by a few extremists...was it widespread??

Devils advocate..what would we say if another country tried to buy a state..ok other than a blue one???

I don’t care about why he is proposing this nightmarishly bad bill. This bill, if it becomes law, will be disastrous for this country. This bill must be defeated. I don’t want to be a citizen of North America.

NO! There is NO guilt whatsoever! What is causing him and the other traitors to support this shamnesty is power and greed. He's just like daddy Bush. He wants a One World Government.

This fall Congress will take up legislation on erasing our borders with Canada and Mexico so we can become the "Americas." IF you don't like shamnesty, you're going to HATE what's coming next!

I should have added, that the Spaniards took over the native Americans in this region, integrated and ran the area.
And we know how the Spaniards have felt about the English over the years.
