Nah, what this actually means is the higher operatives of the Communist Party notice that global warming has jumped the shark, and are preparing the faithful for retreat. They can't call it a loss so they are preparing a position for the "splitters" who will then say "we told you so" along with the right.

Mind, the greens will go down with the ship - they've strapped themselves to this particular mast. But the redder sort are starting to hedge their bets.

IMHO, Global Warming...and consequent “carbon rationing” will be the excuse the US government uses to cover up a pending failure to be able to maintain, through diplomacy and military force, a reasonable price of oil. It will be the guise for fuel rationing and control..rather than an open and public admission of failure. That GWB, and BTW, even Newt Gingrich, has now signed on means its a done deal.

Liberals try to rationalize a conclusion that is contrary to common acceptable thought. This gives them the feeling that they are smarter than the average bear

Yes!!

The "science" of global warming is bogus. the sun is responsible for the warming of the Earth.

Henrik Svensmark's research has proved that fact.

Funny Christopher Hitchens a hard leftest is slamming Global Warming as total myth... and now Alexander Cockburn who in so far left he makes Hitchens look, politicaly, like Rush ...

I chalk it up to Cognitive Dissonance.

The old left has spent the last 40 years opposing nuclear energy because it was a lower cost option to fuel capitalism. But since the neo left and assorted opportunistic political hacks have completely jumped the shark on this global warming crap, the old left has no response other than the obvious --- freeze to death in the dark.

That's not a good sales pitch.
