Brzez's Brush-off: Rosie Would Look Like 'Price is Right' Contestants
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 06/18/2007 10:35:32 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

A leitmotif of the banter of "Morning Joe" on MSNBC is the eponymous Joe Scarborough's teasing of newsreader-cum-co-host Mika Brzezinski over her fancy upbringing as the daughter of former Carter NSA Zbigniew Brzezinski. Defending herself against the elitist charge this morning, Mika twice referred to herself as having grown up among "Polish hillbillies."

But when it came to commenting on popular culture, Brzezinski condescended to both Rosie O'Donnell and average Americans in a way worthy of the most high-brow of snobs.

At 6:57 am EDT, Scarborough made reference to retiring game show host Bob Barker's recommendation for his replacement.

MSNBC HOST JOE SCARBOROUGH: Bob Barker [said] Rosie O'Donnell would be a great replacement for him on "The Price is Right."

MSNBC'S MIKA BRZEZINSKI: The problem is she's going to look like the people who run down the aisle all excited.
The screengrab shows Mika making like an excited audience member.
SCARBOROUGH [feigning confusion]: What the hell does that mean, Mika?

BRZEZINSKI: Isn't that the show where you go 'come on down!'?

SCARBOROUGH: Yeah. She's going to look like those people? I'm so confused.
No Joe wasn't, and neither are we. We know exactly what Mika meant: Rosie and the audience members don't look like the people in Mika's elite mix.

ASIDE: Earlier in the show Mika congratulated herself for not having a expressed a single opinion during an entire show at the end of last week. Could Brzezinski have been chastened by this item of mine and/or comments elsewhere in reaction to her having let her liberal Dem slip show on the June 6th episode?

You’re probably right. Imus made a nasty crack, whereas all Rosie ever did was accuse the President of the United States of complicity in the murder of thousands of his fellow citizens.

Mika twice referred to herself as having grown up among "Polish hillbillies."

Her grandfather was an international diplomat and a university professor and her father is a university professor and former National Security Adviser.

Her entire family consists of academic elitists.

Bob Barker is suffering from Alzheimers if he thinks Rosie could carry the torch for “Price Is Right”. The show would be over in a few weeks. I think Barker wants her for that reason. He doesn’t want the show to succeed without him!

At least Rosie O’Donut could go toe-to-toe with those large Samoan women!

Bob Barker [said] Rosie O'Donnell would be a great replacement for him on "The Price is Right."

Would they change the name to "The Dyke is Left"?

While I cannot comment on Mika because I don’t watch the liberal shows too often, it does not take a snob or elitist to appear condescending to the very basist - Rosie O’Donnell.

If you are offended by her reference because you somehow identify with the “come on down” crowd you have greater peronal issues to address than worrying about her observations.

Rosie probably saw all those women hug bob barker when they won, and wanted some of that action.
