Dude, shopping trumps everything, even dead babies, and that’s good, because it keeps the economy going, all of us employed and FReeping, and the President of our political party popular!

I can only imagine the terror you must have felt. Thank you for giving me a different perspective. Your situation in no way mirrored what this woman did in my opinion.

Actually, a sharp pointed hard object will do it with much less effort. They sell these items at Sears and elsewhere that have a spring loaded sharp-ended rod. They say it works easily.

"Oh my God, I forgot I had a baby."

And now I guess, she doesn't.

My nephew is an EMT here in New Orleans. I hear stories like this, and worse, all the time. Recently a 4 year old with heart problems was forgotten in the family car after they unloaded a bunch of landscaping plants. The family tried to revive him in a swimming pool BEFORE they called 911. Kid’s body temp was 120 degrees. He died a few days later, on Father’s Day. Ironic.
Nephew said the father was hysterical at the time and he actually felt sorry for him. ‘Dad’ was arrested when the child died.
If you lock an animal in a car, or neglect your children by leaving them home alone- and death is the result- charges result. Why not when these helpless children are left to roast in automobiles? ‘ I forgot’ is a pitiful excuse for a child roasting to death.
I would put the responsible party in the same car, lock it tight, ring it with police and let them slow roast like the child they ‘forgot’. Pull them out only when the screaming stops and death is assured.

With all the hot weather out west I was wondering when the first case was going to occur.

I wish that they allowed baby seats in the front, less chance of "forgetting."

Immediate sterilization stop recurrrence. Even people who mistreat/neglect animals are prevented from owning any for a period of time. Should the punishment for mindless neglect of a child earn less?
A close call like this- where the baby doesn’t die- should mean the parent loses custody and is sterilized.
The death of a child by such neglect/mindlessness should earn the exact fate for the parent.
I can’t enforce such an idea, but I promise you- as a woman- I would!

When you don’t have children, many things define who you are. You’re a student, a woman, a wife, sister, employee, soccer player, whatever... From the moment you become pregnant, there is one thing that defines who and what you are. You are the life support system for that child. You are still many other things, but they are secondary. Nothing takes precedence over your role as mother. It’s not a part time job. It’s not a temporary job. It’s who and what you are. And you don’t forget that, ever.

Darwin award nominee??? On Thursday the official high, in Spokane, WA was 101 with other areas going higher.

Please refrain from using "Darwin Award" in further postings until you know something about it. DW nominees are gleaned from (1) fatal accidents (2) of a highly unusual type (3) where the deceased is to blame for their own death and (4) they died before procreating. There were no fatalities here. If there had been a fatality here, the death would have been the fault of the parent and not the toddler, and of course, no one would expect a toddler to have procreated as yet. It is absurd to mention "darwin award" with this particular incident.

Sorry to come down on you, but I see "darwin award" applied to circumstances where they clearly don't apply on an almost daily basis around here. It has to stop.... LOL.

"Then after a few minutes they go "Oh my gosh! I forgot about my baby!" It happens all the time."

Forgetting ABOUT the baby is one thing, BUT, forgetting that you HAD a baby is entirely something else. Unless, that's what she meant, that she forgot ABOUT the baby.

“How do you forget you have a baby?”

How did BOTH women forget they had a baby with them. “when she finally spoke to them; they say she told them, “Oh my God, I forgot I had a baby.”....Sounds to me more like something got lost in the translation.

Yep. A baby carrier is a marvelous aide memoire when you tend to forget you have a baby! Most likely, the perp tends to lie and not give a damn if the baby bakes to death.

I have one of these in each of my cars. It has a sharp point on one end and a razor (to cut open the seat belt in case of emergency) on the other. Better to be safe than sorry!
