French official suggested Bush was behind September 11

PARIS (Reuters) - A senior French politician, now a minister in President Nicolas Sarkozy's government, suggested last year that U.S. President George W. Bush might have been behind the September 11, 2001 attacks, according to a website.

The www.ReOpen911.info website, which promotes September 11 conspiracy theories, has posted a video clip of French Housing Minister Christine Boutin appearing to question that Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda group orchestrated the attacks. Boutin's office sought to play down the remarks.

Asked in an interview last November, before she became minister, whether she thought Bush might be behind the attacks, Boutin says: "I think it is possible. I think it is possible."

Boutin backs her assertion by pointing to the large number of people who visit websites that challenge the official line over the September 11 strikes against U.S. cities.

"I know that the websites that speak of this problem are websites that have the highest number of visits ... And I tell myself that this expression of the masses and of the people cannot be without any truth."

Boutin's office sought to play down the remarks, saying that later in the same interview she says: "I'm not telling you that I adhere to that position." This comment does not appear on the video clip on ReOpen911.

Numerous other websites have also posted the clip in recent days and the story has started to seep into the mainstream media.

For those of you who live in the USA, it might be real hard to understand that the rest of the world comes to this conclusion. It’s more prevalent than one would think. understand thine enemies.

War is peace, and rank stupidity, it seems, is now a requisite for such, so called, leaders.

I have no illusions that the modern educational systems in the rest of the world are somehow incapable of producing thinkers such as this.

Quite the contrary. Ours, with the help of liberal trash, is trying to catch up fast.

No it's not. There are plenty of websites that provide "proof" thet the U.S. gov. was behind it. Some are pretty convincing.

If you have an intrinsic enmity, based on envy, of the U.S. then you will be easily led to the conclusion that this bonehead believes.

There are people that I work with, NRA types and liberals both, that believe this.

As Hitler’s propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels well knew, if you tell a lie often enough some people will start believing it. The idea that 9-11 was an “inside job” engineered by George Bush is ludicrous, yet in the climate of seething Bush hate this lunacy still is believed by some.

It’s easy for me to understand why the rest of the world would believe in this ... what’s hard for me to understand is why Americans would believe it.

Actually what’s hard for me to understand is do they REALLY REALLY believe it, or do they just say they do.

Naivety or stupidity.............very hard to tell here.

So using the same logic, the Holocaust didn't happen because tens of millions of Islamic say it was a lie ?

I would agree their are plenty of raving moonbat websites with "proof" the Bush and U.S. Gov was behind 9/11, none I have seen are convincing at all.

Most are so filled with holes in their ravings, sorry I mean "theories", a Jihadist could fly a jumbo 747 right thought it

Most of them don't "REALLY REALLY believe it."

If I believed it, I'd be calling for GW's immediate impeachment, removal from office, indictment, conviction and execution.

Most of those who claim to believe this act as if it is only another reason to vote Democratic.

If it were true, which I've seen nothing resembling evidence for, it would mean the President and hundreds to thousands of other American officials are guilty of treason and mass murder. It would not be a political issue, it would be a criminal one.

Remember. You are far better educated, at least when it comes to the "news" (because of your participation on FR), than the average American. These site present the "facts" in such a suggestive way that those who don't really pay attention and allow access to their minds by the media are fooled. They come to believe the oft told lie.

I have a friend at work who is an NRA, fishing, Fourth of July guy and he believes most of this stuff. Of course, he doesn't search for news other than what he get from the MSM.

To give just two examples of its silliness:

NYC fire and police investigators who had just lost hundreds of their buddies would have to be quietly concealing the evidence of explosive residue that would be turning up in their samples. They’re in on it, you know.

I have personal friends who worked on the cleanup of the Pentagon, which it is claimed wasn’t hit by a plane. They personally found pieces of plane and human bodies.
