Arkansas was a State that used to have some of the worst highways in the nation. When Mike Huckabee was Governor in Arkansas, under his leadership, a major restoration of the highway system took place.
The Club for Growth is complaining that a 4-cent tax on diesel fuel was assessed to fix the roads in Arkansas. However, over 80% of the voters in Arkansas supported that measure. Today, Arkansas has some of the best roads in the nation.
In light of what happened with the collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis, we can appreciate Governor Huckabee for his leadership in Arkansas in the repair of the road system, otherwise, such a tragedy could have happened in Arkansas too.
Of all the presidential candidates, Mike Huckabee is the ONLY candidate with a positive and extensive record on transportation. As a President, he will make sure that we have safer roads and safer bridges.

Gee ... who was the governor when the roads deteriotated?
Huckabee's pay-as-you-go plan has done a great job of improving our highways. The roads are much better now.
It's disgusting what some people will do for power.
Vanity post?
Huckabee is a Bill Clinton clone. Do not listen to what he says, but what he does.
One Arkansas governor was quite enough.
Arkansas needs those good roads to handle all the additional traffic from the illegals that have doubled their population.
Huckabee = Big government socon. No thanks. I value my personal liberty and freedom from do-gooders who believe they can save everyone from themselves.
Good post--saved me the trouble.
Way to make hay on the latest tragedy.
I’m waiting for the Boston Globe to print the following...
Bridges are safer in Massachusetts because of Ted Kennedy

Blast from the past (and present): "This [California] measure imposes a 4 percent sales tax on gasoline . . . This new sales tax is in addition to the existing $.18 per gallon state tax on gasoline and diesel fuel and the average sales tax of approximately 8 percent imposed by the state and local governments on all goods, including gasoline . . . will be used to improve and operate passenger rail and mass transit bus services . . . the measure would generate about $630 million annually."
Yes, some would go to what tax on fuel was meant to be, road maintenance. But the liberal mantra has for decades been, "The little people's autos bad, tax 'em for our buses and rail."
(This example picked at random to represent "the way it is.")
***Huckabee is a Bill Clinton clone. Do not listen to what he says, but what he does.***
I would rather have Huckabee as governor (and President)than the Clintons any day.
From NW Arkansas.
***Arkansas needs those good roads to handle all the additional traffic from the illegals that have doubled their population.***
Thirty five years ago many of the bridges and overpasses on I-40 were declared substandard. They are still there, none have fallen.
With all the trucks from Wall-Mart, Tysons, Peterson’s, PAM, Hunt and Willis Shaw we needed good roads and upgrades.
I don’t want the Huckster or the witch from Illinois to be President.
From SW Arkansas.
Yep, voters like new roads, not repaired old ones.
