Ted Nugent: Opinions? No, just the facts

By Ted Nugent, Texas Wildman

Sunday, August 26, 2007

I admit right up front — I didn't graduate from college.

I was too busy learning stuff, traveling the world, creating a firestorm of rock-'n'-roll R&B and seeing the way things are.

I fancy myself a human sponge for information, facts, data, wisdom and truth.

I am convinced that quality of life comes as a direct result of learning good over bad, smart over stupid, responsible over irresponsible, and the making of pragmatic decisions based on evidence to that effect.

Bottom line is, I am a rather humble guy, not cocky enough to pontificate on my "opinions," but rather examine information, cross-reference all that I can dig up and draw conclusions based on corroborating empirical evidence.

For example, I'm not foolish enough to play with fire, use tobacco, drink and drive, eat garbage like a pig, point guns at anything I'm not willing to destroy, commit crimes or play around with meth or crack.

I not only learn by my mistakes, but from those of others as well. The jury is not still out on the error of these ways. It's over rover.

So, as I kneel and pray each day for a stronger, better America, I find myself conducting more and more media interviews, speaking to a lot of youth groups and various schools across this great land.

I am astounded at the abject denial regarding certain self-evident truths, a denial that is a surefire recipe for serious injury, ruined lives, premature death and a dangerously susceptible America.

Convenient denial on any given subject will create an atmosphere of general denial where you can more easily pretend, for example, that smoking or chewing tobacco isn't really substance abuse and you can go right along killing yourself while charging others for your health care. Unbelievable.

Irrefutable list

So, here's a list of facts that may or may not be argued, but all are irrefutable, and the fact that an argument exists on any of them proves that fantasy is for fools who are more than happy to see America come to her knees.

* Water is wet. Venison is food. Tobacco use kills more Americans than anything. Drinking and driving is self-inflicted terrorism.

* God gave me the right to defend myself.

* Tofu production kills more living things than any other activity on earth.

* Paul McCartney took too much acid.

* Trapping bans don't work. Hunting bans don't work. Gun bans don't work. Gun-free zones are a recipe for innocent slaughter.

* Guns are harmless, inanimate objects.

* Pathetic people not willing to defend themselves cannot dictate such soulless policy upon those of us who know we must.

* American education fails to teach many children to read, write, spell, balance a checkbook or talk.

* The Internal Revenue Service is horrendously wasteful, unaccountable and unconstitutional.

* Dope destroys lives. Meth users are American terrorists.

* The No. 1 threat to a black American's life is a black American.

* Kids that don't do chores are a liability to family and America.

* People who don't care about their health don't deserve health care.

* Good is superior to evil. Smart is better than dumb. Activism is the duty of anyone claiming to be part of an experiment in self-government. A work ethic is far superior to laziness.

* Barbecued dead animals are perfect, natural and delicious.

* Love conquers hate. Patience teaches much more than immediate gratification. Clean is better than dirty.

* War is the answer against terror and evil. In WWII, America was the good guy, the Japanese and Nazis were the bad guys. You cannot negotiate with evil.

* The war on poverty is a joke. Pimps, whores and welfare brats are not legitimate job descriptions.

* Trees produce wood for many quality and proper uses.

* There are more deer, bear, mountain lion, geese, wild hogs and wild turkey in North America than at any time in recorded history.

* Child molesters cannot be fixed.

* The government gets more profit from gasoline taxes than the oil corporations do per gallon.

* Rock-'n'-roll is sexier than C&W. Guitars are cooler than keyboards.

* It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.

* People who can't speak clear English or mumble and carry themselves badly will have a hard time achieving the American Dream.

* Hippies stink.

* People who litter are rude pigs.

I think you get the picture. Obviously, this is a grossly incomplete list of some of the more obvious facts of life.

But if we are to honestly examine this sampling, you will see facts that are to this day disputed, all in the name of "feelgood" denial.

You are lucky - bears and turkeys are not moose. Hitting a moose will total your car and possibly you also. Trust me! I’ve seen the results. Car and moose, both totaled.

Paul McCartney took too much acid.

I disagree. I wish he had taken a LOT more acid. Then maybe we wouldn't have to suffer all of those crappy, syrupy songs he wrote.

You really should Google Roundup + toxicity.

It’s the nastiest stuff ever unleashed upon the ignorant public.

A relative who has a greenhouse and ‘professional chemical permits’ had access to it long before it hit the store shelves and he used it to exterminate the Mutliflora bushes around our bog.

That was 10 years ago and we’re just now seeing an occasional frog or toad and we rarely see the salamanders that were formerly *everywhere*.

[or any of the small predators that survived by eating the aforementioned]

The peeping and croaking used to be deafening here on a summer night.

Not any more.

It’s as silent as a tomb, thanks to the kill-off of everything unfortunate enough to have contacted it and its residues.

It’s horrifying to discover that anyone is actually using it on -food- crops.

Whatever. I know a bit about insurance- it’s all about the odds. If an insurance company will sell you a policy at the same rates as a non smoker then fine. But life insurance companies can and do have exclusions for dangerous activities (let them find out that you are a private pilot or race cars and see what happens to your rate).

Smoking killed my dad, crippled my mom and killed my beloved aunt. Everyone should be free to live their life their own way, but when someone tries to say that tobacco is not addictive and harmful then they are a degree below NMBLA apologists in my book.

I sympathize with your losses. Everyone here knows someone who has died of cancer. But cocaine and meth and booze are not the same as tobacco. You said it yourself. You are an EX smoker. You can't smoke yourself to death tonight. But you can kill yourself or someone else with alcohol or cocaine tonight. It takes a long time to die from tobacco use, and even then believe it or not only a minority of people get sick from using it. Being fat is way worse than being a thin smoker.

But I could shoot or burn or drive me/them to death, doesn’t mean guns, gasoline or cars should be outlawed.

Nugent has a steak of nanny-statism in him.
Nanny-statism? Nope.
Steak? Most likely.

Bet he killed it himself, too.

Most definitely.<<<<

He may have not taken enough. John Lennon wrote better songs, but imo, Harrison wrote the best.

I know a fair bit about toxicity of pesticides and xenobiotics in general. Roundup is about the most widely used herbicide on the market. Roundup toxicity to weeds is specific and very potent. Its toxicity to animals is quite low; actually about as toxic as table salt. I don’t mean to be flippant, but your attribution of the decline in amphibian population in your area to roundup is not a controlled experiment. Roundup (glyphosate) is not the culprit. Check the refereed literature and you will find that I am close to the mark here. I fear that many people are misled by the old media on this issue as well as most political issues that don’t favor liberalism.

I’d have bet a million dollars you’d quote the hackneyed “table salt” analogy.

Monsanto would *never* lie, suppress evidence or study results that would affect their sales, would they?

Toss a little Aspartame on your tofu, just for good measure because “studies” say it’s ‘safe’, too.

http://www.mitra.biz/blog/archives/2005/07/roundup_toxic_a.html

Case in point; I called the local lawn care company to ask what to do for the Chlorophyllum molybdites infestation in my yard and they said -nothing- would work except extreme excavation of the affected area.
*But*, he did suggest I try Roundup because although nothing else on this planet kills that crud, Roundup does put a hurt on it.

[and I’d already tried table salt, amongst about dozen other other “home remedy” suggestions and no, I did *not* resort to Roundup because the mushrooms are in the same yard where the dogs play]

So, as far your defense of Roundup goes, I give up.

Poison your world.
It’s your property.

Personally, I’m going to be calling the manufacturer of the only soy product I use and ask if Roundup ever touches their crop.

If it does, I’m done with them.

All pesticides are subject to EPA approval including toxicity testing. Your citation of a blog is not a refereed scientific journal. Most of the soybeans raised in the world are now the roundup resistant variety. You will be hard-pressed to find any that aren’t and idenfitying them is problematic. Roundup is not a complex molecule — glycine with a couple of phosphate groups. It ain’t that toxic for animals. It is specifically formulated to interfere with plant biochemistry. You are way off base on this. Check the scientific literature, not the old media or some envirowhack hack.

“mushrooms in the yard” — be careful with mushrooms, Amanita phalloides, even a single cap, is enough to destroy your dog’s liver.

Every food product on the shelf has a variety of chemicals, preservatives, extenders, etc. associated with it. Fruits and vegetables grown in foreign countries are often tainted with pesticides banned in the U.S. long ago. Finally, all natural does not equate with harmless. Think about tornadoes and hurricanes. Aflatoxin, a natural fungal metabolite, is among the most potent liver carcinogen on the planet and it is in your peanut butter.

Please try to put toxic issues in proper perspective. Every thing is toxic, even pure water. The dose is the issue that makes it toxic or safe.

Check the CDC stats on unhealthy lifestyle costs like IV drug use, homo behavior, alcoholism, etc.

Interesting that I see no mention of homosexuality or alcoholism in Ted's list.
