KUT, Iraq - American commanders in southern Iraq say Shiite sheiks are showing interest in joining forces with the U.S. military against extremists, in much the same way that Sunni clansmen in the western part of the country have worked with American forces against al-Qaida.
Sheik Majid Tahir al-Magsousi, the leader of the Migasees tribe here in Wasit province, acknowledged tribal leaders have discussed creating a brigade of young men trained by the Americans to bolster local security as well as help patrol the border with Iran.
He also said last week's assassination of Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha, who spearheaded the Sunni uprising against al-Qaida in Anbar province, made the Shiite tribal leaders more resolute.
"The death of Sheik Abu Risha will not thwart us," he said. "What matters to us is Iraq and its safety."
not really, right? ;o)
Besides, the flurry around OJ is so much more vital to our country 0 sarc off/
Sorry, I forgot to check the excerpt box. There is more to the article...you can find it here:

And yes, it was sarcasm :)
Let's hope enough Americans who watched the slimy traitors and their disgusting attracts on Petraeus will take a similar stance - and become more resolute in standing by our troops and our country...
The beginning of Shiite Awakening movements perhaps? One can hope!
as an example of my last post = this thread, it seems, wont have much attention - Freepers are too busy with what “really” matters = the newest OJ debacle with 600 plus posts and counting ......It seems the things that should matter most, like this thread story, buried, as you say, in the paper = is also largely buried in FR
WOOOOHOOOOO! Great news! Iraqi freedom bump! America’s finest BUMP!
Harry POS Reid BUMP! Dick Turbin Dhimmicrat BUMP! Ted Quagmire (in the water) Kennedy BUMP! etc., etc.
When I saw the headline I thought the sheiks were lining up against Pelosi, Reid, and the democrats. Well, I guess AQ is a bit more important, but still, I can hope for more.
And, If anyone posts it again, the Multiple-post Police will shoot him down. God forbid that everyone sees it.
OJ being a more major concern than Al-Qaeda and Islamic terrorism? Huh...that kind of sounds vaguely familiar......
O.J's been a long time overdue and I can accept a couple of days giddiness over his arrest, an above average interest in any trial, and irate vitriol if he gets off again.
None of that overshadows events in Iraq but
a. As I said, it's been due for a long, long, time and he's finally let his alligator ego get out in front of his hummingbird brain. Happy, happy, happy...
b. Even in FR I think Americans have to be reminded that Iraq consists of at least three distinct (and conflicting) groups. We've been seeing good news about Iraqi tribes and cities swinging over to our side for several days now and the distinction of Shia versus (previous) Sunni probably isn't picked up as being pivotal.
For my part, I'm still utterly befuddled over which terrorist group is one or the other - and I know it is critical to understanding why they insist on attacking each other in between killing infidels. That's when the old "...let allah sort 'em out" philosophy comes in handy.
