Anti-war presidential candidate Ron Paul says his campaign is about "restoring the vanishing American dream." And he is criticizing what he calls "the cartel controlling the banking and monetary system" in the United States.
Fresh off his third-quarter fundraising surprise of $5 million, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul says the libertarian "revolution" he has started is growing across America. Paul told conservative activists at the "Defending the American Dream Summit" in Washington, DC, that the conference would be more aptly called the "Defending the Vanishing American Dream Summit."
The Texas congressman said his Republican rivals often talk about a "flat tax" or a "fair tax," but his program is not that complicated -- he wants to completely get rid of the income tax.
"We have devised a government that has endorsed principles contrary to the Constitution [and] to conservative principles," exclaimed Paul. "[W]e've endorsed the concept that we are to run an empire around the world and a welfare state here at home -- and it's nothing but trouble."
According to Paul, the Constitution was written for the purpose of restraining government, not restraining people. But under the current philosophy, he argued, individuals' personal liberties have been neglected. "And that is the purpose of government," he stated: "to protect liberty, not to promote war and welfare."
Paul explained that he is a part of the "old right" of the Republican Party that opposes nation-building and "policing the world." He called it "an irony" that "we currently ... cannot even afford to pay [for] the war or our welfare system without borrowing nearly three billion dollars a day from foreigners, a lot of it coming from China."
It is no wonder, he added, that the U.S. dollar is weak on the markets. "And it's going to get a lot weaker," he added. "So no matter how much spending you want on policing the world, or how much money you spend for more entitlement programs -- even if they are Republican entitlement programs -- it will come to an end, and the American dream will end."
According to Paul, as president, he would have to eventually do what Presidents Jefferson and Jackson did -- get rid of the national bank.
I don't know why you're worried. He's only polling at "2%" and is getting all of his money from Code Pink and Neo-Nazis anyway.
You going to asked the question over and over again since NONE of you ever answer it. We are not running a popularity contest here. Glad you love Dr Paul, that does NOT qualify him to be President of the USA.
The U.S. Treasury can just print money and keep track of the money supply so as to make sure there is enough around to manage all of the transactions without triggering inflation.
-
and how would it keep track?
Seriously, you are just as much of a kook as Paul is. Your fascination with a guy polling at 2% with hardly any media visibility today and very little name recognition in America is seriously amusing to me.
There's always going to be terrorists, Johnnie. No matter if we leave now or stay until the year 2050.
If you want our troops to remain in Iraq at billions of dollars per year in which they'll basically be a giant can of insect repellent, go right ahead.
BTW Johnnie - tell your buddies in the GOP to stop playing games and go after Iran and Syria, because the terrorists are coming in from those nations into Iraq. But being the mind-numbed sycophant that you are, you don't care. Perhaps you should unloosen the bandanna flag from your head, it's cutting off the oxygen levels to what I loosely refer to as your brain.
cutting and running is much world. It tells the whole world that Americans are a bunch of pansies who will give in to arab pressure
much worse
Could have fooled the Paul campaign. He's just crossed $400,000 in fundraising for the month of October. Thousands of grassroots supporters working for him for free. #1 in straw poll victories, #1 in internet searches, #1 in post-debate polls, #1 in YouTube, etc.
He might not win the nomination but the Republican Party will finally return to its original roots and other Americans will be inspired to run for office themselves.
I’m seriously considering proposing that our local county Executive Committee direct our Chairman to leave Paul’s name off of the Primary ballot (in both the Presidential and Congressional race), as he has just publicly refused to support the eventual Party nominee.
What lack of numbers? He just raised $5 million dollars for the 3Q. ROFL
I disagree. Showing the Arabs that we're leaving currently isn't a guarantee that we will eventually lose to them or other bad influences (Like becoming the United States of 3rd world Mexico). The thread of a nuclear attack on Mecca with the next terrorist attack would probably sufficient enough to curtail most of the wackos. And if we have to nuke it? oh well. A weak border policy though almost guarantees more terrorist attacks, a weakening of our economic system and continuing change in lifestyle to that more akin to Mexico than ours. Personally, I think both Cutting/Running is kooky as is an open border policy. Since so many Anti-Paulers on here fail to hold Republicans to the second part, I think of them about as much as the stuff being flushed down the toilet.
and 1% in polls. he’s truly #1
A Paul 3rd party candidacy would devastate the GOP nominee, not Hillary. Thank your lucky stars that Paul is keeping his pledge to not run as an independent or 3rd party candidate. Also you should be thanking Paul for running in the race as well. Those libertarian, independent, and new voters who are out there working for Paul? They're registered as Republicans and will likely vote for the GOP nominee in the general, you dolt.
Those polls are bunk. The MSM is polling the same folks who voted in the last 2 elections on landline phones. They're about as credible as Rudy is on the 2nd Amendment.
Numbers as in any form of a majority that would get him even close to winning the Republican nomination.
As far as his $5 million, I’m surprised Democrats haven’t provided more to have him ranting in the debates and more vocal in commercials.
Paul has little name recognition outside of people who are very politically active or at least read 100% of all political articles in their local paper. My parents are more into politics than probably 80% of people I know and didn’t even know who Ron Paul was (or Duncan Hunter for that matter). No one at my office that I’ve talked to about the upcoming election at all (probably 2 dozen upper middle class people) knew who he was. While 1% is low, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ron Paul is at 4% or less due to lack of visibility and name recognition.
You are delusional. First of all, Paul has said repeatedly that he is NOT running as a 3rd party or independent candidate no matters what happens in the primaries. Second of all, Paul is drawing the Reagan Democrats who are voting for Paul because of his border security and sovereignty stand.
Hillary would pay Paul to run as a third party candidate.
Keep smoking the crack pipe. It ain't happening. Besides, Paul's run is pushing the GOP back to its traditional roots. The folks who registered as Republicans will likely support the GOP nominee IF the GOP reaches out to Paul and let him speak at the convention & adopts a couple of his issues or something. They're the votes that'll crush Hillary.
whoa ho...what nuke attack on mecca. we’re talking ron paul, not tom tancredo (who isn’t known for a weak border policy as well as a weak iraq policy)
Go read his Wikipedia page. Paul has introduced or co-sponsored dozens of bills, more than most Congressmen.
For people who claim to be such lovers of the US Constitution, you Paulites have a serious lack of understanding on how our Govt works.
We are electing a President, not a Dictator. That is a fact you people seem hell bent on ignoring. Just because a guy mouths nice sounding slogans on your personal emotional hot button issue, does NOT qualify him to be President of the USA.
