EDITORIAL: A worthwhile cause

Is the Rush vs. Harry spit-ball fight over? Probably not, but at least this nonsense will end up benefiting the children of Marines and law enforcement officers killed in action.

You'll recall that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid spent precious time on the floor lambasting Rush Limbaugh for comments the conservative radio talk show host made on the air a few weeks back. (When they waste energy on stuff like this, is it any wonder that approval ratings for the Democratic Congress are near all-time lows?)

Mr. Limbaugh used the phrase "phony soldiers" to describe some critics of the Iraq war. He said he was referring to a handful of war protesters who claimed to have served in the military but actually had not.

Sen. Reid and his Democratic colleagues -- still smarting from the black eye they received when their allies at moveon.org took out a juvenile attack ad in The New York Times against Gen. David Petraeus -- jumped on Mr. Limbaugh, seeking an apology and trying to show they're not anti-military.

Forty Democratic senators signed a letter to Mr. Limbaugh's boss at Clear Channel Broadcasting, demanding that he repudiate the talk show host's comments.

It was a batting-practice fast ball right in Mr. Limbaugh's wheelhouse.

Not only did Mr. Limbaugh offer to have Sen. Reid on his show to debate the issue with him -- Harry refused, of course -- he put the letter up for bid on eBay with the proceeds, which he vowed to match, going to benefit the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, a charity that funds college scholarships for the children of Marines and police officers killed in the line of duty.

On Friday, the bidding closed at $2.1 million. That means Mr. Limbaugh, with his contribution included, raised $4.2 million for the charity thanks to the silly histrionics of Sen. Reid and his Democratic colleagues.

Sen. Reid tried to be gracious, but couldn't help implying he deserved some credit for the generous donation.

"When we can put our differences aside, even Harry Reid and Rush Limbaugh, we should do that and try to accomplish good things for the American people," the majority leader said.

In fact, Sen. Reid had absolutely nothing to do with the charitable outreach -- it was Mr. Limbaugh all the way.

Besides, Reid and other Democrats said they had no intention of matching the winning bid. If they want to horn in on the credit, that's the least they should do first.

In the meantime, thousands of kids will have a chance at college, thanks to Mr. Limbaugh. And that's tremendous.

Well, Limbaugh and Mrs. Betty Casey. Good for both! :)

My thoughts exactly! Earlier in the week the story was reported in the same paper. The writer obviously didn’t have all the facts before he wrote.

Reid made a complete, laughable fool of himself when he tried to take credit for the fundraiser. It was hilarious.

I wonder if the blue hairs in NV will take time away from the nikel slots to read and digest this? Methinks not. Have heard a lot of horror stories of snow-birds stuck with un-sellable homes/condos in the Vegas area. Too bad, so sad. It reminds me of the FL real estate specualtion during the 1920s. Why anyone would want to live in Vegas is beyond me.

stated as a fact.

He said he was referring to a handful of war protesters who claimed to have served in the military but actually had not.

It sure was!

This whole episode proves one thing: Mr. Limbaugh is a whole lot better at politics than Mr. Reid and his cronies. The Democrats would do well to remember this in the future

Now Rush should use his research staff to comb through the campaign finances of every prominent rat in Congress. This WILL bring some great hits, especially on those who have NEVER had a review of their campaign donors before. As someone who uses this as step one in doing OPs research, I can guarantee success. These are people who believe no one will EVER check these lists and for the most part they are right. Rush would find them stocked with criminals and ever people with terrorist ties. Once he gets this info he should put it on his website and post the name of the target of the week in USA Today every Friday in time for the Sunday shows. Sooner or later the info will be picked up. When that happens just once it will be picked up EVERY week.

Reminds me of Florida speculation in the 2000’s, like right now.

The Republicans should learn from this too. Stand your ground and fight back against the lies. Stay on offense. This is the blueprint on how to deal with the libs and MSM.

I’m still waiting to hear from Clear Channel’s president as to what was ACTUALLY said when talking to that liar Reid. If I were Rush, I’d demand to hear that exchange.

I agree. Too often Republicans are so intent on “making nice” and trying to get Democrats to like them that they miss easy opportunities to defend against the lies thrown at them by liberals and their willing accomplices in the MSM. Furthermore, they often act as if being on the offense in promoting conservative values is anathema to them. In sports a player or a team can’t win by simply being in the game. But Republicans too often think this is the case.

I don’t know if you listened to the last segment of Rush Limbaugh today but it sounds like something big is about to happen.

A caller, obviously a lawyer, asked Rush 5 or 6 questions which if he could answer yes to would be grounds for a lawsuit, Rush said yes to all BUT Rush said he was a public figure and that would rule him out of litigation. (I’m paraphrasing)

The caller then said something which involved the media and Rush immediately stopped him and said to say no more because it would be giving away a strategy.

This implied to me they might be going after Media Matters and the signatories of the letter sent to Mr.MayS of Clear Channel but that the plaintiff would not be Rush himself but Clear Channel for acts of intimidation and abuse of power by Reid and his cohorts in the Senate.

All I can say is “From this computer to God’s ears”

Reid is a disgrace to our country, a disgrace to the citizens of Nevada, and a disgrace to his family...........

I forgot to mention Rush said he ‘Super Secret’ meeting tomorrow in NYC and would be broadcasting from there tomorrow. This MAY BE the reason Mr. MayS has said nothing about what Reid said in his conversation with him.

Mr. MayS is not a stupid man and if he were having a ‘conversation’ with a devout liberal and a known liar he would have witnesses in the room to testify what REALLY was said since recordings are not admissible. (speaker phone)
