It doesn't matter how many Oscar winners are in front of or behind the camera audiences are proving to be conscientious objectors when it comes to this fall's surge of antiwar and anti-Bush films.
Both "In the Valley of Elah" and, more recently, "Rendition" drew minuscule crowds upon their release, which doesn't bode well for the ongoing stream of films critical of the Iraq war and the Bush administration's wider war on terror.
"Rendition," which features three Oscar winners in key roles, grossed $4.1 million over the weekend in 2,250 screens for a ninth-place finish. A re-release of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" beat it, and it's 14 years old.

Beyond the fiction features, the anti-Iraq war documentary "No End in Sight" (box office: $1.4 million) couldn't capture the indie crowd, beating a swift retreat to DVD next Tuesday despite glowing reviews.

All of these movies will win numerous Oscars and Golden Globes. Hollywood has a funny way of rewarding the least successful movies, especially when they are directed against the USA.
Not that anyone in Hollyweird will ever give even so much as the merest, most fleeting scintilla of consideration for anything as wacky and far-out as all of that, mind.
Thanks for the post.
Good to know the box office is reflecting the feeling's of many and showing it in the pocketbook book of the film makers.
Gee, You mean socialist, anti-American, ignorant propaganda doesn’t sell? Well, DUH!
(BTW, find out which companies back these “films” and sell the stock.)
I’m thinking the next Bourne film should be a story along the lines of a terrorist’s brother, who wants to take revenge on Bourne.
Sample story line.
Starts of with Bourne being attacked, perhaps a couple of times. He starts of thinking that the organization is trying to eliminate him only to find out that is not the case. Hooks up with his old handler Nicky and conducts a couple of sneak and peeks against the police who are investigating the attacks. From there, he figures out who it is and goes after them. As a side plot, we find out more about Nicky and Bourne’s relationship. When Bourne eliminates the terrorist, the company begins to warm up to the idea of offering him a freelance type role ... which Bourne does not want.
The whole “Rendition” thing bothers me. Reese, why have you doen this too me? I know she’s reading my posts....
Brian De Palma, director of "Redacted." Scheduled for a December release, the low budget/no stars movie is based on real events involving American soldiers who raped a 14-year-old Iraqi girl, then killed her family.
Mr. De Palma has been complaining publicly that disturbing photos, which run at the end of the film showing dead and dying Iraqis have, ironically, been redacted by the distributor, Magnolia Pictures.
Americans are not fools; neither are we falling for the lying liberal perversion of what is actually taking place in Iraq. There are a tremendous multitude of heroic people and events that have taken place throughout the entire conflict in Iraq. IF HOLLYWOOD had the guts to honestly present some of them in film, they would make a killing at the box office )pun intended). Instead, HOLLYWOOD and the liberal left have an agenda: America is BAD, we must leave/SURRENDER in Iraq and lose. Therefore they are doing everything within their power to undermine our noble efforts there by distorting the facts and perverting the truth. The good news it the public isn't buying it, thanks in large part to the new media.
As far as I and most Americans are concerned, I hope everyone involved loses their shirts BIG TIME.
Maybe if they issued carbon credits with the purchase of theater tickets more people would line up to see their country trashed by billionaire traitors of the silver screen.
Or maybe folks know enemy propaganda when they see it and choose to avoid it like the plague. These Holly-weird people are clueless...
I would dare say it is probably more a factor of people are tired of the war than any pro-military sentiment. They get enough of negative news from the media, they don’t want to pay money to go see more. JMHO.....
Agree “The Kingdom” was very good.
Oh Bravo!!!! I’ve always felt that the majority of good, common sense Americans do not fall for this kind of crap. It is only because of the overcoverage these clowns get from our drive by media that they have any voice at all.
BDS does not make for good theater, hate just clouds the mind of any imagination.
It would be great to see a new film award called the
Leni Riefenstahl for the most anti-American propaganda flick of the year.
“Redacted” is coming out in December? Well then it should get a huge audience because that kind of depressing violence is just what Americans want at Christmastime! Seriously, I would not be surprised if that bombs too. It will only be America haters and closed minded Bush bashers going to see it.
The truth is that the US Military is the most respected national institution in the country. People were sick of Iraq, because it didn't seem like we were doing what was necessary to win and all people heard about were soldiers getting blown up by roadside bombs.
Now that General Petraeus is in, the man who literally wrote the book on counter-insurgency warfare and is implementing his strategy. The results are exceeding General Petraeus' expectations. It's going far better in Iraq more quickly than anyone imagined. Bin Laden's latest tape is really a plea not to defeat al Qaeda.
And gee, the polls on approval for the Iraq War are going up and the successes are filtering through to the American people. Liberals are basically aliens in this country. They don't understand real Americans. They want Americans to victims, they want Americans to be poor, weak, helpless and irresponsible, so that they can step in and increase their own power.
Liberals are perverse. If their is a perverse position on an issue, that is where you will find the liberals: For Maine 11 year olds to have sex is illegal. But liberals want to give 11 year olds contraceptive pills without the approval or even knowledge of their parents. Perversity on Parade.
I remember when the article came out earlier this year that Hollywood was going to make a whole slew of 'anti-war' movies. I predicted that they would all, all lose money. Ordinary Americans want to succeed in Iraq, liberals want to see America fail in Iraq. So, they make movies to 'celebrate' and hopefully bring about that failure and they're going to get failure alright, failure of the movies.
