The Coup at Home (BARF Alert)
New York Times ^ | 11-11-07 | Frank Rich

Posted on 11/11/2007 11:11:21 AM PST by Starman417

To believe that this corruption will simply evaporate when the Bush presidency is done is to underestimate the permanent erosion inflicted over the past six years. What was once shocking and unacceptable in America has now been internalized as the new normal.

This is most apparent in the Republican presidential race, where most of the candidates seem to be running for dictator and make no apologies for it. They’re falling over each other to expand Gitmo, see who can promise the most torture and abridge the largest number of constitutional rights.

Yeah, upholding the Constitution, limiting government, and allowing the freedom of speech, right to bear arms, press, and religion sure is a dictatorship alright /s. The Democrats do none of that.

They’re falling over each other to expand Gitmo, see who can promise the most torture and abridge the largest number of constitutional rights.

According to liberal scum, killing the unborn is ok but waterboarding terrorists is not. Terrorists have no constitutional rights, THEY'RE NOT CITIZENS! The hypocrisy and blatant liberal ignorance in this NYT crap is blood-boiling. F the NY Slimes.

Frank Rich, former movie reviewer promoted to political pundit, would be a raging embarrassment to most newspapers. But the Times features this moron. If he was truly concerned about corruption, he would worry about the Clintons. Since he doesn't, he isn't.

Did I miss anything?

“Wrong track is a euphemism. We are a people in clinical depression. Americans know that the ideals that once set our nation apart from the world have been vandalized, and no matter which party they belong to, they do not see a restoration anytime soon.”

I’m not depressed. Things are looking up. War in Iraq is won. Troops are going to be coming home. Economy is adjusting to the subprime bubble. Democrats are being exposed as empty-suited liars. NY Times stock is heading to zero. Looks good for a Republican winning the White House in 2008.

Gee, it would be too bad if Rich committed suicide before we get to water board him.

Terrorist plucked from the battlefield, firing at Americans, pledging "death to America", and wearing no distinguishing uniforms deserve “constitutional rights?

The ignoramus gets paid to write this stuff?

This is not free speech, it's treason that is dangerously ignorant. Many of my friends are fighting while this guy lives in comfort eating his cheese and drinking his wine. Before 1965 this guy would probably be in jail for trying to undermine the US and aiding the enemy killing American troops. Man, we are in serious trouble when we don't call out columnist like this Jihadist enabler.

Rich’s perception is completely divorced from reality. As if the president, of any party, could control the internal politics of Pakistan. Bush Derangement Syndrome thy name is Rich.

Rich works himself up to a lather because he isn’t the dictator of the world. What strange air he must breathe.

It is also only fair to point out that nobody has ever really controlled the tribal areas of northwestern Pakistan. Not the British and certainly not the Pakistani government. The terrain is among the most rugged in the world and the people are heavily armed feudists.

It is ludicrous to act as if Musharraf has the ability to enforce Pakistani laws in this area as thoroughly as American laws are enforced in the US.

Well, most American laws. Those regarding immigration seem to be impossible to enforce.

Frank Rich makes a high art of hypocrisy. He faults Bush for failing to apply the Bush doctrine to Pakistan when Rich and the New York Times have stretched every sinue and fiber of their being to discredit the Bush doctrine. He decries Bush for not applying the doctrine to Pakistan, but Rich does not tell us that Pakistan has nukes and missiles to shoot them with.

A hypocrite himself, Rich paints Musharraf as a hypocrite but fails to tell us that Musharraf has had several assassination attempts against him miscarry only by miracles. Rich does not tell us that Pakistan is riddled with Islamicists who are itching to get their hands on the bomb. Bush has not bungled relations with Pakistan since 9/11, it is a miracle that we have been able to sustain an administration which has kept nuclear weapons out of the hands of crazed terrorists. No, Bush has not misjudged his man, Musharraf has produced more than could reasonably be expected of anyone in that environment.

Frank Rich and the New York Times have done everything in their power to dismantle the Bush doctrine in particular and leave us toothless abroad in general. One need only cite their obsession with Abu Ghraib to demonstrate the recklessness of the Time's campaign to sabotage the war in Iraq, handcuff us against Iran, undermine us in Korea, and humiliate us before our European allies. It is clear that the New York Times is determined that its prediction that the war in Iraq is lost will come true. There is nothing in the record to refute the charges against the New York Times alleging that the Times wants America to lose the war against terrorism because it wants America humiliated and defeated and removed as an obstacle to its worldview. If Bush is handcuffed with Iran, if diplomacy avails him nothing, it is because the New York Times and its European henchmen have offered the Iranians reason to believe that Bush is so isolated that he cannot strike militarily.

Having rendered America toothless abroad, Frank Rich in the Times have also undertaken to leave us defenseless at home. Hence we are told that Guantánamo is a gulag, that water boarding is torture (of course Rich does not bother to tell us that more people have drowned at Chappaquiddick in the back seat of Senator Kennedy's car than I've ever died of water bordering), and, most bizarre of all, we hear this business, (an echo of that mindless Al Gore fashion advisor Naomi Wolf), that Republicans are scheming to turn America into a fascist state.

We will not be able to stop terrorists abroad from obtaining nuclear weapons if Frank Rich has his way, and we will not be able to discover where and when they have smuggled them into our cities if Mr. Rich has his way. His hypocrisy can kill us all.

If anyone remembers the column by another NYT writer (David Brooks?) a few years ago where the 1950’s rightwingers were compared to today’s leftwing nut cakes I’d appreciate any information you may have to help me find the column. Thanks.

You got to love Rich. A feverish knee jerk unthinking defender of the unending flood of corruption during the Clinton regime, he has the gall to say this about the Bush Presidency. To believe that this corruption will simply evaporate when the Bush presidency

This despite the fact that his gods, the Democrat Congress have launched over 300 investigations and turned up..NO CORRUPTION during the Bush years. Rich is another good little Marxist propagandist. They just keep screaming the lie hoping that if they scream it long enough and loud enough the lie will magically become truth
