Thompson Flier in Iowa Attacks Huckabee

"Why is Mike Huckabee attacking Fred Thompson?" asks a new flier sent out in Iowa this week by the Thompson campaign.

But, it is the former Tennessee Senator and GOP hopeful who has launched criticism of former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., who leads Thompson in the most recent Iowa polls.

The fliers, which were mailed to Iowa voters Tuesday, tie the former Arkansas governor to another former Arkansas governor -- former President Bill Clinton.

The mailer features side-by-side profile pictures of both Huckabee and Bill Clinton, say the two "share a D lifetime rating for their tax and spend policies."

The flier also states Huckabee, "talks like a Republican but taxes like a Democrat," while outlining Thompson's tax relief plan, which includes several tax cuts.

This flier is the latest outreach to Iowa voters by the Thompson campaign as January 3rd approaches. Despite airing television ads in the state, Thompson has yet to gain momentum in the polls in Iowa.

He heads to Iowa today for his sixth visit to the early-voting state.

If Huck is leading in the polls why resort to such tactics to begin with?

Because his polls are artificial and over-hyped by a complicit mainstream press. Huckabee has zero real support, except among the religious right and even then those votes will be split.

If you point out the truth from Huckelberry’s record, that is an attack! What should be do...wait for the media to dig into his past. The MSM does not attack when they bring up crap like “FRED is lazy?”

How stupid do they think we are?

I was being snarky.

Today I watched a news show and can’t remember for the life of me what it was. Getting old stinks. But it was a truth or fiction of the mailers being sent out in Iowa. Huck got blasted for many of his misleading comments on his opponents, including Guiliani and Thompson.
Guiliani was critiqued on his misleading comments on Huck.
Guess whose mailers were missing from the misleading false list. ...um that would be Thompson.

Just like he was judged to have had no factual mistakes in at least two of the debates.

Huckabee would be the worst hands-down. He’s pro-life and anti-gay-marriage, but he’s too dumb to accomplish any of that under a Dem controlled Congress, so it’s a moot point. He would “compromise” with the Dems to raise taxes, grant amnesty, close Guantanamo, and he’s utterly clueless on the war.

Fred got hornswaggled into hiring some immature young punks to run his campaign. All they want to do is attack like rabid bulldogs, without doing anything to show Fred’s outstanding qualifications to be our president in a positive way. It may be too late to fix it now, if the article above is an indication of how things are being run today.

Thanks for that erudite assesment, however, you are way off base!

Fred has and is constantly showing off his outstanding qualifications.

At the same time, he is not letting the competition get away with lying about thier past.

That is not an attack, it is holding his competitors accountable.

And by the way, the accountable thing, is what a good Chrisitan does!

The Romney speech was an act of desperation.

These flyers? Eh, they all do it. Though I notice you avoided this was factual.

We have a ding dong of a talk show host here in Iowa who uses his 3 hours a day to promote Huckabee. Deace normally does not consider most Republicans worthy of his vote but he's making an exception for Huck.

I forced myself to listen a short while today and heard Deace say that Huck did not think it is fair for corporate CEOs to be making huge sums of money while workers get laid off.

I guess Deace thinks it's virtuous for the government to regulate how much CEOs can earn.

Deace also considers himself far more religious than the rest of us. I guess he missed the "do not covet" part.

It was another reason to not want Huck.

He also has a radio ad running that if you take out the pro-life and marriage part, the ad could be for Hillary Clinton. It's all cliches. I consider it an insult. Anyone buying what he's selling (except for the pro-life and marriage part)is gullible and lacks discernment.

“Eight years has been long enough for our party to be headed at the top by a RINO Compassionate Conservative.”

I personally consider such attacks on President Bush to be reprehensible. Of course President Bush has made mistakes; eveyone does.

It disgusts me the way folks turn on someone when so blows the wind. Also, I am sick to my soul at the ridiculous term RINO. It is MEANINGLESS. The GOP has changed repeatedly over the years and will continue to do so - it isn’t Goldwater’s party anymore. Whenever someone doesn’t like a fellow republican’s stance he is labeled a RINO.

I want to remind people that President Reagan was a democrat who said that “I didn’t leave the party, it left me.” So President Reagan must of had something in common with Dems at one time. Dare you call him a RINO?

You know what I think a RINO is on FR. A Ridiculous Idiot Nomenclating Others.

“Sheer desperation.”

I agree and it grieves me to see a class guy like Senator Thompson be part of it.

Yes and no.

I do think there are a number of real voters lining up behind Huck right now that have to concern other candidates. BUT, I think they are supporting a generic Socially Conservative Southern Governor.

they certainly aren’t supporting a pro tax, pro illegal, weak on security candidate. Big Government? Not too sure about that one, that might appeal to some of them. Problem is that most of them don’t know that side of his record and it’s a bit late to get that information out there.

For what it’s worth i think he could win if his record isnt completely revealed to the voters in time BUT i think they would have buyer’s remose come the general when this side of him is revealed.

While i don’t think the MSM started this hype, I think they relish the idea of this guy being nominated or at least causing friction in the fragile Republican coalition. then you have Dobson and gingrich out there pulling strings on his behalf, and well, we are where we are.

Still doing everything you can to cast a negative light on everything about Fred's campaign while being a compassionate, Christian conservative?

“Sheer desperation.

verify...then be desperate. Huckabee attacked Fred with a disingenuous spin on what Fred said with a mailer sent out to Iowan voters. Fred responds with facts.

Call me confused when people excuse a behavior in one and nail another for clarification.

What you are saying may be completely correct. But headlines like this combined with his campaign playing an attack ad during the youtube debate are creating a strong impression that the Thompson campaign is getting desperate. Attacks are important but you don’t want them to be tied directly to your campaign at this stage of the game.
