I think there is a good reason this story is not on national news-it would exacerbate already existing racial tensions and allow nuts on the lunatic white racist fringe to come out of the closet and blast blacks as a group.
Same reason why I am not in favor of all the hype about the Jena Six and related cases that give the Left and agitators like Sharpton and Jackson fuel to stir up discontent among blacks.
The suspects in this case in Tennesseee deserve a quick trip to the electic chair if convicted.NOT because their victims were white,however.They should get the same sentence if their victims had been two shady crack fiends or two illegal aliens.

If the press refuses to cover black-on-white crimes because they fear it would encourage white extremists, then why do they report white-on-black crimes (even dubious ones) with such gusto?
If the press is merely trying to maintain racial calm, then they should downplay all cross-racial crimes. Instead, they generally ignore black-on-white crimes. But white-on-black crimes are hyped at hysterical levels. Even fake ones (Duke LaCrosse) get huge coverage. Even insignificant ones (noose found hanging in a warehouse) are milked for all they’re worth.
Blatantly obvious. You see anyone around here stating that the perps should be executed only because the victims were white? Didn't thing so.
As far as your point that this particular story shouldn't be published because racial tensions might be exacerbated, I disagree. Murders should always should be reported. ...and the skin color of those involved shouldn't have anything to do with it.
This is all out brutal torture, lying in wait, murder and all the rest of the book. I remember taking a "Cultural Awareness" Psychology course where the teacher attempted to show us there are merely cultural differences and not black, white, yellow red "racial" differences. It was a good class and of course politically correct but I was working with the worst of adolescents were deemed "criminally insane" instead of murderers or student sociopaths. As I am white/Jewish mix and most of the kids were either african American or hispanic I was generally called a white blankety blankety blank jew kike (insert favorite slur) and there wasn't much one could do to "educate" these youngsters.
That said, there were a LOT of gang related black( *ahem*) cultural problems with beat downs and "blanket parties" which were basically a few dark skinned kids taking a lighter in color skinned person and attempting to kill them until a staff member would have to break it up. Granted, from the perspective of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson( I save Reverand for God only) I suppose you'd consider me rascist due to the fact that there would be consequences for such blanket parties which were shown to be only used against the culturally African American predators on the fewer and lesser attacks from culturally lighter skinned European ( ad infintum) kids mainly beacuse there just weren't enough to form a gang to "beat down" the oppressors.
I was fotrunate to escape one such attack( a *ahem* race riot, or cultural difference is perspective?) and it took a heck of a long time to gain my pension. I did attempt to return( staff only had a spot for me on the same unit and refused my memos to be transferred) the paper work after returning to work( I happened to copy albiet illegal) when two of the kind hearted gang leaders threatened to," hunt my white *ss down..." kill me and such. Oh they tried A LOT and the administration did their best to bury it or use some sort of tranference to suggest I was the one with the "race" problem.
Enough of my Shabbas rhetoric but sometimes, no matter how you 'spin" the story, even reproting in as non-racial, culturally diverse politically correct manner as possible someone will consider something written or said as rascist. I see more escalation of religious hatreds, "racial" hate crimes and such no days than ever before and ...just to go out on a limb here, I bet if these lovely fine upstanding young men and woman were interviewed I'm just certain there was a racially motivating trigger these "lighter skinned" individuals emitted thus provoking the well deserved( cynicism/severe sarcasm) beat down and murder they deserved. maybe with some Cultural Awareness classes and some enlightment at a "Correctional Facility" where they will learn improved gladiator ways to communicate their cultural diffences they'll be out of the slammer in no time...or maybe they can write a book about how they were brutalized and psychologically broken which induced a psychotic break and tranferred to a lesser than maximum security environment to "heal" their internal wounds after suffering depravity over hundreds of years of slavery...
