Late-Breaking Surge for Thompson
National Review Online ^ | 2 January 2008 | Peter Robinson

Posted on 01/02/2008 3:09:35 PM PST by big'ol_freeper

The latest news from Iowa? According to Zogby’s latest—and I quote: “Sen. Fred Thompson…has seen a late-breaking surge.” (Rich notes the same poll below.)

What’s going on here? My guess is that there are whole lot of Iowa Republicans who have about the same attitude that David Limbaugh displayed in his column yesterday:

Fred is the only [candidate] I don't have major reservations about….I find his lack of "fire in the belly" refreshing. He strikes me as one of the few presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan whose primary motivation is not personal aggrandizement but rather serving and leading the nation in very troubled and dangerous times. I see him as almost being drafted into this project, and his refusal to drool publicly over the prospect of becoming the most powerful man in the world is positively delightful.

Would you care to comment on any meaningless, superficial qualities?

The “quote” you refer to was from a CBS source, I believe. Hardly what most posters on this forum would consider to be reliable. And to my knowlege, it reamains unsupported and unsubstantiated from any other source.

I took a brief glance at your brief posting history. You don’t like Fred, (or at least you post repeatedly that he can’t win) you don’t like McCain, you don’t like Huckabee, you acknowlege that Hunter isn’t a realistic option....

Can I deduce then that you are a Mitt-mutt? With your sign up date of 12-29-07 of course.

I have something very constructive to add — “focus on national security and Fred will turn his campaign around.”
That’s a hell of a lot more constructive that “Go Fred Go! The Fred surge is going to take off... any day now... then we’ll be in a solid 4th place, right where we want to be, in the meaty center!” You people pretending like this is acceptable or at all a sign of a well run campaign are DELUSIONAL.

Well, that settles it. I guess Hillary has your vote. I’m sure she managed to cover absolutely everything in her 2 minute speech. What more do you need to know?

I mean, who is going to vote for an unfocused rambler who’s wife does not want him to win?

Thanks for letting us know.

“The fact that Fred has not made this the central issue in his campaign is what stands out.”

You are really scraping and scratching for this. You must be frantic to invent something negative to say about Fred.

I agree, B-Sox! I’m a big believer in the power of prayer and the power of CASH! I frequently send BOTH Fred Thompson’s way!

I read it somewhere maybe 2 days ago. It might be just some manufactured ‘quotes’ from Thompson.

I sure they WERE manufactured, just not by Fred or his folks.

Would you have us sell out Fred’s honesty, consistency and true conviction for the hairstyles, soundbytes and lies of the other candidates?

“EXACTLY!! I’m sorry folks, with all due respect to David Limbaugh, the only thing ‘refreshing’ about Fred Thompson(right now) is the nap I just had listening to his video message in Iowa on youtube!

I understand exactly what David Limbaugh is saying, but ‘fire in the belly’ IS important...so is modulating your voice every now and then to make an important point.

Fred needs to understand that the big bucks are holding back right now because HE IS HOLDING BACK. Folks that are serious about conservatism want to back a winner..and perhaps that is why Limbaugh(David) ends his article with a caveat: “Time to step up Fred”...

and I might add to that:....’time to lose the monotone drawl that puts conservatives(and most everyone else) to sleep’.”

Imagine a job interview where the applicant says: “I’m the best guy for the job. I’m not sure I want the job, but I’ll do it if you want. Oh, and those other guys you’re interviewing? Well, they’re all a bunch of bums.”

This guy is not going to get the job.

No, I would have Fred run a better campaign that convinces more people to vote for him.

To Checkers: You must be frantic to invent something negative to say about Fred.

When someone supports a liberal candidate (which makes him a liberal) you have to invent things to attack a conservative. Liberals have nothing else but fabrication.

Short version: Zogby makes it up.

When is Super Duper Tuesday? Have any of those states moved their primaries this year? I just found out a couple of weeks ago that MA has move ours up to Feb. 5th.

Why, in these days of terror and political corruption, would we vote for lily-livered flip-floppers when we have a candidate with a backbone—Fred Thompson!

That's why you make cracks about his wife.
