Late-Breaking Surge for Thompson
National Review Online ^ | 2 January 2008 | Peter Robinson

The latest news from Iowa? According to Zogby’s latest—and I quote: “Sen. Fred Thompson…has seen a late-breaking surge.” (Rich notes the same poll below.)

What’s going on here? My guess is that there are whole lot of Iowa Republicans who have about the same attitude that David Limbaugh displayed in his column yesterday:

Fred is the only [candidate] I don't have major reservations about….I find his lack of "fire in the belly" refreshing. He strikes me as one of the few presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan whose primary motivation is not personal aggrandizement but rather serving and leading the nation in very troubled and dangerous times. I see him as almost being drafted into this project, and his refusal to drool publicly over the prospect of becoming the most powerful man in the world is positively delightful.

Listened to Fred on Hannity’s show and can not understand how a true conservative would not support this man. I think that the MSN is trying to sabotage him with the lazy/no fire in the belly talk. I am surprised that some of us are fooled by their Bull Sh*t.

If you believe the polls, Fred has a way to go, but I think his actual numbers are higher, Huckabee is still dropping, and I think Fred’s supporters are more motivated to turn out for him than many Huckabee and Romney supporters. They have all had a dose of disillusionment recently and I think it will result in many deciding to leave the caucus to others tomorrow night.

We shall see.

How so? If Huckabee finishes in top 2 in Iowa, he will almost certainly place ahead of Thompson in SC.

Iowa is Fred’s make-or-break state in terms of beating Huckabee. Since it’s very very likely Thompson will be able to beat Huckabee in Iowa, I highly doubt a 3rd place finish will be able to save him.

Bull. He’s not stupid. Iowa isn’t the end all of everything. Please show us where and when he said this. I don’t believe it’s true.

Source please. Quoting other Freepers on other posts isn't quite a source, either, FYI.

The source document is on Mitt's desk right beside his NRA endorsement.

Is tossup a new Huckles supporter? How can you support someone with the flip flopping of late. Not even mentioning his liberal nature...

I think it's actually encoded in a secret Biblical code in the NEA endorsement of Huckabee.
