Late-Breaking Surge for Thompson
National Review Online ^ | 2 January 2008 | Peter Robinson

The latest news from Iowa? According to Zogby’s latest—and I quote: “Sen. Fred Thompson…has seen a late-breaking surge.” (Rich notes the same poll below.)

What’s going on here? My guess is that there are whole lot of Iowa Republicans who have about the same attitude that David Limbaugh displayed in his column yesterday:

Fred is the only [candidate] I don't have major reservations about….I find his lack of "fire in the belly" refreshing. He strikes me as one of the few presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan whose primary motivation is not personal aggrandizement but rather serving and leading the nation in very troubled and dangerous times. I see him as almost being drafted into this project, and his refusal to drool publicly over the prospect of becoming the most powerful man in the world is positively delightful.

I agree Checkers. I am one of those conservatives with very strong reservations about Thompson right now. Something is not quite right there.I have given his campaign money, but he leaves me flat. He says all the right things, yet my instincts lead me elsewhere.

“To reject someone because of the attitude of his supporters is a little shallow, dontcha think?”

Haven’t rejected him. He’s just not my first choice.

I do get worried about candidates who have unpleasant and/or unbalanced supporters.

I just checked and Greta's show will be replayed at 1am Eastern, I've already set up my DVR to catch it. Also noticed that on the Fox Movie Channel, Mr. Fred is playing in Die Hard 2.;o)

Well, Fredheads.

The time is at hand.

Good luck to you guys tomorrow.

I am with DUNCAN HUNTER to the end--hoping to see him catch on in NH, SC and Western states.

Nevertheless, I won't shed a tear if both Huckabee and Rommey are derailed, as well as McCain and Guiliani also having the wheels come off of their Radio Flyers as well.

The jump-the-shark moment has to be the complaints about Fox News. (John Edwards also got into it with Fox. What is it with Trial Lawyers and Fox?)

The job of POTUS is not really complicated....
Just leave tax paying American citizens the Hell alone and slaughter the foreign jihadist enemy that wants to kill us all.

Dang! That sounds just like Fred!

(Alas, Hubby drew the line at letting me teach the child the correct way to refer to Hillary...)

*snort* Around our house, she's simply referred to as Her Heinous, along with her partner in crime, x42. I won't even dignify them with their own names, and I don't want EITHER of their criminal selves anywhere near the White House, ever again.

If you think Fred is the right man, why would what any of his supporters have to say change your mind?

Better worry about Mitt, then. Isn’t that who you are supporting? ;)

If it ends up between Fred and McCain, I don’t think there’s much to worry about frankly... Elephants never forget, and I certainly haven’t forgotten what McCain stood for during the whole Shamnesty debacle.

They will keep some of us from lifting a finger for Fred Thompson if he happens to win the nomination.

*shakes head* Just amazing.

Fred had me when he said ‘I’ll take it to the people of this country’. Talk about a breath of fresh air!

This country could stand a good dose of down home no nonsense Fred Thompson.

“Fred has talked about his National Security experience ever since he entered the race. All of his supporters are familiar with it. His statement upon the death of Benazir Bhutto was the perfect example.”

Why are you replying to me?

Gosh, maybe because you and counterpunch have been a tag team all night?

To: my right

That’s my take on this whole thing, too. The left-leaning media have been promoting the “best” candidates in THEIR view (meaning someone who won’t beat Hillary, and if they do won’t be as “dangerous” to their goals as a true conservative would). As you said, it’s a shame that some till take their cues from the biased MSM. I for one think, hope, and pray that there will be a big surprise tomorrow when we hear from the actual VOTERS, and not the biased writers/producers/anchors.

I guess we’ll see if he’s receiving ‘bad advice’ after tomorrow’s Caucus and the next few primaries.
