'I feel like an alien in my home town'

Do 'no-go' zones for non-Muslims exist in Britain, as the Bishop of Rochester claims? Olga Craig reports from some of Yorkshire's Asian-dominated areas

It has been more than 40 years since Tim Carbin walked the length of Oak Lane, the Bradford backstreet of his boyhood. Then, when he lived with his grandmother Florence Pawson, a matriarch within the community, his task after school was to run errands.

Down to Foster's, the baker's, for a loaf of bread and a pound of bacon from Donald Gilbank the butcher. "And mind it isn't too fatty," Florence would tell him.

Mr Carbin, then 13, knew all the local storekeepers by name, just as he knew the families in the surrounding terraces.

Yesterday, outside number 95A, his grandmother's former home, Mr Carbin gazed in bewilderment as he scanned his old haunt.

Not surprisingly, the stores of his youth had gone: such has been the change in our shopping habits over the decades that they have given way to supermarkets and fast-food outlets.

But that was not all that had changed irrevocably in Oak Lane. Among the new stores, the clothes shops sell Muslim dress, the butcher stocks halal meat and even the local takeaway advertises halal pizza.

"I feel like an alien, like I'm on a street in Karachi," Mr Carbin says, awkwardly.

"I don't feel I have anything in common with this area. It's like I've never been here before. I knew it would be different but I knew, too, that I would feel uncomfortably like I don't belong."

He now lives just 10 miles away, in the north of Bradford. He hasn't returned because Oak Lane, like so many similar areas of so many northern cities, is now an almost exclusive Asian Muslim community.

Another tells of how his father, an electrician, parked his van in the area only to have it rocked and thumped by a group of Asian youths telling him: "This is our area now. You are not welcome here."

Three-page article.

Mr Carbin is far from a racist, however. Well educated and widely travelled in Muslim countries, he has the utmost respect for the Islamic religion.
Then he gets what he deserves.

with white-only and Asian-only communities existing cheek by jowl
That's BS, and the reporter knows it's BS, and the editor knows it, too. But it gets printed anyway.

There are no "white-only" areas. The closed-off areas, the areas where discrimination runs rampant, are the muzzie areas.

Yep! Throughout the Western world the press drones on incessantly about white racism, and yet I doubt that there’s a single white neighborhood in Britain, the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, etc. where any racial minority would be taking a risk by shopping or walking down the street.

Yet every major city in all those nations have no-go zones for whites. The only risk minorities face in those countries is if they enter a neighborhood dominated by another minority. For example, in Los Angeles there’s increasing hostility between blacks and Hispanics and crossing into the other’s turf can be dangerous.

But no matter how much of this occurs, the focus will always be on massive white racism, which doesn’t exist, and on the rare, isolated white-on-minority crimes.

Most white areas are so because they’re simply filled with white people, they’re not white by exclusion. Certain people hide behind this in order to justify their rantings against “racist white society”.

Exactly. A non-white, muzzie or not, can walk freely in the "white-only areas". But non-muzzies are actively unwelcomed in muzzie-town.

Are you talking specifically about Bradford now or generally about Northern English cities?

I’ve lived in several of them. This is based on personal experience, I take it?

I’ve never lived in England, though I’ve visited several times.

So I’ll defer to your greater experience and put the question to you:

Are the “white-only” areas (areas where mostly white people live) actually off-limits to non-whites? Are non-whites attacked if they walk down the street in a “white-only” area?

I think the answer is no. If you think I’m wrong, please explain.

Mr. Carbin was quoted as saying “This is pure racial segregation. And it’s like this because the Muslim community simply refuses to integrate. So people like me feel like outcasts in our own country.”

He needs to realize that it is not his country anymore!

Sounds like a large number of brits are starting to at least look at this situation as a genuine problem. Not being a brit myself, I have no idea if they have any long-term recourse. I suspect they’re in the same pickle we are in regarding immigration: not much hope at all. I wish them the best of luck.

FWIW, on the Bradford area in particular, and I'm posting the link to the HTML version since my Adobe's on the fritz at the moment....

Researching Bradford

The bit on "community cohesion" is found at page 26. Interesting reading.

I think it’s too late. The Brits have submitted. They have not been invaded and conquered since the Middle Ages, but they now have allowed themselves to be invaded, and have rolled over and are playing dead, victims of their own short-sighted decency and generosity. It is just a matter of time before the Muslims take over the entire country, overturn British common law and impose Sharia. Enoch Powell was right. See my tagline.

I’m not sure the debate is correctly framed.

In none of the places I’ve lived do I recall their being any areas that I felt to be ‘off-limits’. I haven’t lived in Yorkshire and, if there are any such areas in the UK then I would guess that the Leeds/Bradford area would be where one would find them.

There have been areas that I preferred to avoid after dark, but I think most cities have those. There have been majority asian areas amongst those, but equally I doubt an asian from outside the area would be any more keen. There have also been predominantly white areas where I would rather avoid after dark.

If we took the area cited in the article, took out 50% of the current inhabitants and replaced them with unemployed white youths of a similar social status, I doubt it would make the area any more appealing.

In America most new "white areas" exist because the residents fled a now minority-dominated zone, and turned it into a station of hell.

Perhaps it's well past time for those in Muslim dress in non-Muslim areas to stop being treated so friendly.

The British elites, like our elites here in the U.S., have decided that their nation will become “multi-cultural”. The citizenry wasn’t asked for their opinion on this. They simply woke up one morning, noticed that half the town was wearing turbans and speaking a different language. They then noticed that if they entered certain neighborhoods, there would be hell to pay. Then they noticed that if they objected to this, they’d be called a racist and the media would declare them to be “extremists” whose views are outside the scope of public discourse.

I’m sure someone from Britain knows more about this than I do, but from afar it seems the “multi-culturalization” of Britain has advanced along lines similar to those in America, with the only difference being that Muslims are the biggest invading force there, while it’s Mexicans here. In both nations, the elites of both major parties decided to demographically transform the nation while censoring anyone who dissented. The media fully cooperated. We were told for years that there was nothing to worry about and that the new policies wouldn’t change our nations at all. Then one day we were told that our nations are changing and that they’ll be majority non-white in a few decades and we just have to accept it. Then we were ordered to celebrate it.

And so we’re in this mess without the general public ever having any say-so in the matter.
