Romney's Florida Robo-Calls (VANITY)

Posted on 01/25/2008 1:45:33 PM PST by surely_you_jest

The upcoming FL presidential preference primary cannot come soon enough. My home phone is being spammed with junk taped telephone calls on behalf of Mitt Romney. We just received the third call in the last four hours on behalf of Romney. One call featured Bay Buchanan. another was Romney himself. My wife answered the third and hung up so quickly we don't know who recorded that tape.

I accept that Gov Romney believes that he is in a tight race, but this is ridiculous. And, frankly, counter-productive. I really hate being spammed with junk phone calls in this fashion. And there is no way that I, or my wife, will cast a vote for any candidate that utilizes the approach of annoying us at home.

Just as a matter of interest, the only candidate or campaign from whom we have received calls in this election cycle is Romney's. Enough, Mitt! Stop calling my home! Go pester someone else.

I wish I were in a state where this would be happening to me, since my vote would make a greater difference.

Well, here the thing on those annoying robo-phone calls which it seems everyone uses. They use them because they work. As much as everyone complains about them, candidates who advertise are more likely to get votes than those that don’t. It’s just the way it is.

If Hillary wins, all females in America will get telephone calls by Bill Clinton, every 15 minutes, asking what they’re wearing.

I haven’t gotten a single call, I fell left out :-(

Are they getting the numbers from the voter registration? (my phone # changed)

I am getting them, too. It is quite annoying. I have had 5 from Romeny and 1 from McCain.

Ah ha! The culprit! We moved out of FL a year ago, but kept our FL cell phone numbers. My daughter has been getting FLOODED on her cellphone with political recordings. Getting them all hours of the day, 5-6 times a day. I will quiz her further to see who they are for. Probably can try calling them back and asking to be removed from the call list. Of course our pols exempted themselves from the DNC (Do Not Call) list laws. What a pain!

I sympathize! We have used call screening for years, this time of year is no exception, and everyone we know, knows it. Generally, spam calls don’t leave messages. There is usually a delay before the recording starts, and the machines cuts off before it can play.

My policy is that anytime I get phone calls from a candidate, particularly recorded calls, I resolve not to vote for them.

Let your county GOP know this.

It may not stop the calls but they will at least be forewarned.

(To answer the inevitable question, politicians exempt themselves from all the “do not call” legislation they passed a few years ago. It is legal for them to use teleterrorists to spam your phone but that doesn’t mean you can’t punish them for it.)

Vote for Fred Thompson, in response.

He’s still on the ballot.

I'm not sure. It is possible. Or possibly from an out of date RNC donation list.

I completely agree. I would be totally annoyed, and wonder why the DNC list isn’t working. I don’t understand why they work. Maybe we should find out which voters these robo-calls work with and remove their ability to vote in elections.

I have not received any calls either, but not feeling left out.:) My mind is made up anyway and with Fred out my vote is going to Mitt Romney to stop McCain here in Florida.
