Evans’ book is a good read. The Dems of today would vilify McCarthy the same as they did back then.
To the Democrats, McCarthy is hated because HE BROUGHT WHAT THEY WERE DOING TO THE ATTENTION OF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC! Nothing more.
Should Communists be blacklisted? Why not? The film industry had the right not to hire people.
But Hollywood and the Libs want the right to do whatever they want, no matter how destructive.
Of course, wait for the Liberal McCarthy (Hillary Clinton) who will work through Media Matters to blacklist Rush and other conservative talk show hosts. Conservative actors and writers are effectively blacklisted already in Hollywood.

For fifty years we've been told that Joseph Raymond McCarthy is the arch-fiend of all American political history--a greater villain than any and all traitors, Communists, racists, anti-Semites, segregationists, and moral monsters of any and all kinds. That the liberal media have chosen this man as their apotheosis of all evil should tell you exactly what the real situation is--ie, the exact opposite of what we've been told!

The only reputation Joe M. has is bad with Liberals, Commies, Socialists and leftists. Oh, yeah, most Teachers in HS and College and any loudmouth that wants to call you a name calls it “McCarthyism” because they think it sounds bad.
He nuked the commies, and we ought to continue to keep them from invading our schools.

Here it is 2008 and I learn the truth of this in the 1980’s but no wanted to know are converse on this topic unless Joe was being undremind!
If not, it is a widely held misconception. I have to plead ignorance myself as I did not know that. Thanks for setting me straight I will definitely have to read Evans’ book.
