Well, it's official, ladies and gentlemen. Believe it or not, Rep. Ron Paul, the 72-year-old Texan who hardly ever gets mentioned in Republican political news and the one-time libertarian who always gets the least time on TV debates if he isn't barred completely, was, in fact, the most successful Republican fundraiser in the last three months of 2007.
By a Texas mile.
By the thousands Paul's fervent followers donated $19.95 million to the "Ron Paul Revolution." He spent $17.75 million and at year's end had $7.8 million cash on hand, making him the only Republican candidate to increase his fundraising totals in every quarter of 2007. According to his website, Paul's Paulunteers have contributed another $4.1 million this month to...
fuel the strict constitutionalist's travels and advertising campaign.
Compare that impressive financial success with, say, the late candidate Rudy Giuliani, who raised only $14.4 million from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 and spent $18.2 million.
Or the departed Fred Thompson, who collected $8.9 million and spent $13.9 million.
Or even the newly-minted Republican frontrunner Sen. John McCain, who raked in only $9.9 million, spent $10.5 million and had only $2.9 million cash in hand. Of course, McCain's string of primary victories in January will have boosted his financial fortunes. Everybody loves a winner.
Mitt Romney actually raised only $9.2 million from other people last quarter, less than half of Paul's haul. However, the former Massachusetts governor -- and if he keeps spending at this rate the quite possibly former multimillionaire -- gave himself $18 million more of his own money last fall for a total of $27.2 million and $2.4 million cash on hand.

IBTSM accusations...
Wow, does this mean I should vote for him?
What do they say about a fool and his money?
IOW something stinks in denmark.
all those chinese mail men, poor diswashers and poor currency traders have some really good aliases.
No.
Just give him more money. That seems to keep him happy.
Money does not equal votes other wise he would be doing better in the national polls.
I do wonder where all this money is coming from because we keep hearing that it is “young people” who support him and they don’t have any money.
IATTMH (IN after the two-minutes hate)
Does anybody actually confirm these numbers? Don’t they come from information provided to the election officials by the campaigns themselves.
Some of the numbers I see reported in the MSM are very suspect to me. I have to wonder if anyone ever follows up to see if that much is actually spent and if not, what happened to the extra.
Just part of being paranoid.
Paul has an awesome on the ground game, folks who have never bothered with politics before are now interested in a 72 yr old bimetallic advocate who has promised not only to abolish the IRS, but to eliminate several cabinet positions.
How cool is that? A new Generation of Rightist Conservatives.
obama hussein raised 32 million, it just shows that the traitors are good at getting there anti-usa message out
I applaud you, sir!
Ironically, in a strange twist, crack and pot purchases were down last quarter.
Paul should drop out and donate his money to CPAC.
Just a correction, he actually said he couldn't achieve this as President.
But he recognizes that some -- like eliminating the IRS, and returning all funding of education to the states -- are unlikely to be achieved as president. So he said he’d focus on the one area a president has more leverage -- foreign policy...“Very simply, we can come up with a program of saying mind our own business, bring our troops home....
Thank you
