I knew JFK, says Gore Vidal, and believe me Obama’s the better leader ( Race revolt if Obama loses)
Sunday Times ^ | May 18, 2008 | Melvyn Bragg

Posted on 05/17/2008 9:29:35 PM PDT by tlb

So what does he think of Hillary Clinton’s stated intention to fight on? “I think her strategy is more or less insane.”

. . . But this long campaign, this daily search for the grail, has driven her crazy.”

In his view Barack Obama has won; and if the nomination is taken away from him, “I fear what our black population might do. There has never been a revolution of blacks – yet”.

As for Obama, “I liked the idea of him, but he never managed to get my interest. I was brought around by his overall intelligence – specifically when he did his speech on race and religion.”

In Vidal’s opinion, “he’s our best demagogue since Huey Long or Martin Luther King”.

I ask if he thinks Obama has a similar charisma to that of John F Kennedy.

“I never believed in Jack’s charisma,” Vidal says shortly. JFK, he believes, was “one of our worst presidents”; Bobby, his brother, was “a phoney, a little Torquemada”; and their father, Joseph, was “a crook – should have been in jail”.

His views on the man the Democratic candidate will have to beat are even more brutal than his views on Hillary: “ You could beat McCain! I’ve never met anyone in America who has the slightest respect for him. He went to a private school and came bottom of his class. He smashed up his aeroplane and became a prisoner of war, which he is trying to parlay into ‘war hero’.”

“The Bush people”, he says, “have virtually got rid of Magna Carta and habeas corpus. In a normal republic I would probably have raised an army and overthrown them. It will take a hundred years to put it all back.”

There was a time Vidal ( or Mr Veedle as Laugh In called him ) was one of America's best writers. I still enjoy listening to him. The funny part is how he is indistinguishable now from a Paulite. "He smashed up his aeroplane and became a prisoner of war, which he is trying to parlay into ‘war hero’.”"

The "black revolution" meme is one I think we'll see more. Nomination by extortion.

“I fear what our black population might do. There has never been a revolution of blacks – yet”.

At last count blacks make up around 11% of the population of the United States. As Sponge Bob said to Plankton looking down on him from above when Plankton announced his intentions to take over the world. “Good Luck With That”.

Better leader in that he’s dumber than JFK and has a more slavering pack of followers. What Vidal means by better leader is that he’ll be more willing to do what he’s told by the crusty bags who run the DNC and all the other leftist groups.

Maybe I should start planning on moving to Japan. Hell the Japanese have kept a somewhat conservative party in power since the last world war. We barely manage to pull a few elections before another chuckle f*ck gets in.

Unfortunately, he’s correct. Anything less than Obama winning the Presidency will be perceived by many blacks as nothing more than “whitey screwing over one of the brothers”.

At the risk of sounding alarmist or paranoid, I’m afraid we could see an outbreak of urban violence much worse than the Rodney King riots back in ‘92. I recall stories of whites being harrassed and beat up in a number of cities across the US.

If Vidal likes Obama, that’s hardly an endorsement.

They already pull guns on whites at a disproportionate rate to their numbers. Maybe such an event would be a wakeup call to liberals.

If Vidal were even close to the intellectual giant he features himself to be, he would be formidable.

He takes a snippet of truth here and there and parlays it into a startling statement. He certainly got it right about Obama being a demagogue.

He is a sheltered, privileged, queer who has a command of the language, but no vision beyond his own tortured brain and ego.

Yes, I imagine many will comment on the probability of black riot. A bad scene and a long time building up; however, if the choice is uprising or Obama for Pres., I choose uprising. It might open some eyes on both sides.

Right to carry in 40 states now. Your fear would be a major lesson in crime control and a victory for the second amendment.

“He smashed up his aeroplane and became a prisoner of war, which he is trying to parlay into ‘war hero’.”

It appears that utter contempt for the military is the Dems’ platform this election cycle.

Say hello to President John McCain.

Let’s hope so. Bush has screwed up a lot of things like the border situation. McCain has a habit of shooting form the lip. Energy prices are out of sight and the Rat Congress is blaming the Dems while they have strangled new well drilling, new refineries and nuclear power plants.
American jobs have fled over seas. Obama has a host of skeletons in his closet McCain is apparently determined NOT to unearth.

Just don’t know where this is going in November at this point.

Pray you are right. McCain has his faults but the alternatives are UNTHINKABLE!

I doubt Gore Vidal has his finger on the pulse of the black street. He's what - about 80 now? He has no idea what is going on, he's just regurgitating prattle from the 60s that was tired then.

Still my favorite Vidal moment:

You Tube of 1968 ABC Coverage of the Convention: Buckley tells Vidal "I'll smash you in your g-d face, and you'll stay plastered .. go back to your pornography"

Actually, around 13-14%, but who's picking nits? Since they commit 70% of the violent crimes, it's irrelevant anyway. If they decide to riot en masse, and take over the USA and the world, it would be get real "colorful", IMO. Targets of Opportunity, BTW.

Yea, Mr. 57 state Obooboo.
Without a script he sounds like a moron.
I just can not believe the number of notable people that are
falling over themselves for this phony.
Anyway, read my tag line. I surely will not come back within the next 5 years.

“He [McCain] went to a private school and came bottom of his class.”

What does that mean? Is he referring to Episcopal High or the Naval Academy (which is not private). Obama (and Vidal) went to private schools, so what exactly is the beef? Coming in at the bottom of the class? That doesn’t necesarily show a lack of intelligence but rather a lack of self-discipline which is not unknown in youth.
