Gotta love PETA. Just gotta love ‘em. Well, not really.

One of the animal rights group’s more obscure pressure campaigns involves trying to convince the Queen of England to give up the natural black-bear fur hats that Buckingham Palace guards have worn for 200 years. Because — y’know — British monarchs have always responded so well to public pressure from nitwits.

Are black bears endangered? Nope. The species covers most of North America. And black bear populations are growing in Canada, where Her Majesty’s funny hats come from.

So what’s the big deal? PETA hates people who wear fur. And they’ll praise anyone who parrots back the anti-fur party line. Even if they’re wearing leather while they do it.

What? Will these moonbats suddenly start loving the army and supporting the war if the guards give up bearskins? Since “Peta-head” is almost synonymous with “60s retro-red,” I seriously doubt it.

I would vote to replace the bearskins with the hides of neutralized ALF-terrorists, though. Not as pretty but a good deal more emphatic.

I'm an avid life long hunter. I actually prefer archery tackle. The PETA freaks would turn back flips if they could see my antler collection and bear skin rugs. Of course I would pull the “bear rug” out from under them while they were mid flip.

I'm a vegetarian who is doing it partially because of dietary reasons and also because I'm morally opposed to factory farming because it doesn't respect the animals' lives. However, one thing I've always learned is never try to force my beliefs on somebody else and never be absurd in my beliefs. As for hunting, I personally think anybody who eats meat should probably hunt so we don't have a disconnect of what we eat. I also believe that hunting is probably one of the best things a person can do because A. The animals you are hunting are probably numerous and their natural predators are either nearly extinct (In the case of deer) or simply don't exist (Like bears) and there needs to be some population control. B. People who eat animal flesh and wear their furs or leather would have a disconnect. BTW, it's probably pleather. I have some pleather boots and a pleather jacket made out out of plastic. They're very warm too.

Boston talker, Howie Carr, always has PETA rep Bruce Friederich on before Thanksgiving, doing their spiel, pitching faux foods, etc. And they take calls...

One of his producers, a guy that likes to eat, tried some imitation turkey or lobster. It was so repulsive, he spit it out.

Friederich's wife was in the line of fire. I don't think she's been back to the show since, Friederich still shows up, in person, if he's in the area.
