The Changing Face Of America
CBS News ^

Posted on 08/07/2008 10:05:22 PM PDT by grizzly84

(CBS) Census figures reveal a new reality in America's classrooms, reports CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes. Minority populations are climbing everywhere.

"The white population, I wouldn't say is fading into the background, but it is becoming the older, less fertile part of the population," says demographer William Frey of the Brookings Institute.

Frey crunched the census data and found huge jumps in the Hispanic population far from the traditional melting pots - up 21 percent in St. Joseph, Missouri; up 17 percent in Scranton, Pennsylvania; and 15 percent in Pascagoula, Mississippi - all in just one year's time.

"You're seeing it everywhere. People are going for jobs," Frey says. "They're going because they want the American Dream."

Whites still make up 66 percent of the population. But their numbers have grown only two percent since 2000, compared to eight percent for blacks, 29 percent for Hispanics and 26 percent for Asians.

"It's tough because we are seen as being either inconsequential or that we're not even really Americans," says Chinese-American writer Helen Zia.

It's forcing school systems to adjust quickly to new fault lines. In Maryland's Montgomery County outside Washington, D.C., the schools went from mostly white in the 1990s to 60 percent minorities today.

Superintendent Jerry Weast dropped class sizes, boosted literacy programs and now sends pamphlets to parents in six different languages.

"If you don't have a plan to accommodate the diversity and the poverty and the language, your community is gonna have a train wreck," Weast says.

The census bureau has long predicted that whites would drop below 50 percent of the population by the year 2050. Experts say the new data suggest that shift could come far sooner.

Many decades ago Ted Kennedy ripped open America's borders declaring on the floor of the Senate "This will not change the Demographics of America." He lied to the American people.

His actions led to every live person in the second and third world becoming a defacto American citizen by default. Simply an American citizen who must find someway to bypass a "symbolic" border in order to gain the benefits and giveaways of what is rapidly becoming a "symbolic" government.

As a result of Ted Kennedy's actions the white population in the United States is being decimated and rapidly heading for minority status.

Perhaps when we're a minority we can ask ol' Ted for some free food housing and affirmative action.

I wonder if the swimmer will comply.

Nobody forced white Americans to adopt the anti-child, pro-abort culture. They did it to themselves in a kind of mass suicide.

You got it. Don’t mind if some of my future generations of family become more tan in color, I do mind that this giant crop of ‘give me something, you owe me for breaking your laws’ La Raza crowd have now entered Washington and are contributing to the accelerated downward spiral.

Senate immigration subcommittee chairman Edward Kennedy (D-MA.) reassured his colleagues and the nation with the following:

“First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same ... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset ... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia ... In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think.”

Sen. Kennedy concluded by saying,

“The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.” (U.S. Senate, Subcommittee on Immigration and Naturalization of the Committee on the Judiciary, Washington, D.C., Feb. 10, 1965. pp. 1-3.)

Well, we can all lament, vent and complain - but what are we going to do about it? And can we?

“You got it. Don’t mind if some of my future generations of family become more tan in color.”

Me either, but I think it’s a question of degree.

If I go to Japan and spend some time there, sample the cuisine, meet the people and explore the culture, that’s fantastic. That’s diversity, that’s good for different cultures and peoples. If on the other hand I take 50 million people who share my particular ethnic background and DEMAND to stay. Insist on being integrated into their schools, insist on being integrated into their hospitals, insist on being integrated into their workforce, insist on my culture mixing with theirs, insist on being integrated into every aspect of Japanese life.

Well, that’s destructive to everything Japan is both as a people and as a culture. The Japanese might have a problem with me and my 50 million friends, and I wouldn’t blame them. My actions threaten the existence of what they value and hold dear.

We can have a compassionate immigration policy where we welcome the best and the brightest from other countries and people who have filled out all of the necessary paperwork.

But 50 million people in a few decades? It’s insanity.

That’s how I see it anyway.

Unfortunately we don’t seem to have an alternative at least politically speaking.

Sigh.

No your dead on and we agree in almost every way. Not a problem to accept 20 million in ten years either. It is a problem they don’t learn English and don’t pay taxes, just the opposite and act as malinvesment. One giant albatross. We’re broke, some are heading back home and many others leaving soon. Ike new what to do before the damage was done in the 1950’s. We did not move fast enough. It’s always about the money.

In Maryland's Montgomery County outside Washington, D.C., the schools went from mostly white in the 1990s to 60 percent minorities today.

That was where I went to High School, back in the late '90s. It was still mostly White back then. Nowadays, White parents are more likely to enroll their children in private schools. Especially in Montgomery County, many of them can afford it.

If I were a student today, my High School would be a whole different animal today. It's funny how quickly things change.

“This is going to insure that we never leave orbit again....”

True.

With a lot less Ted Kennedys in our Government I think we could type in “Mars landing” on Youtube and watch the video.

Though it would probably have less views than Paris Hilton..

The Supreme Court did it all against the will of the American people.

The justices took God out of the schools and made it legal to murder 60 million unborn.

60 million missing Americans.

Yep, that’s the speech.

In conclusion Ted Kennedy served America the same thing Burger King is serving. A couple of Quarter-Pound Whoppers.

Looking at the size of his belly it looks like he served himself quite a few of them too.

Yes! There are two types of diversity: Internal and external. The more you have of one, the less you have of the other. Japan is diverse to all that lies external to it, so it has external diversity. No other nation on earth is like it. If they took in millions of immigrants from the West, from the Muslim world, from Africa, or elsewhere, they’d become more internally diverse but less externally diverse. They’d become more and more like other nations, and less and less like their historical standard. If those other peoples became the majority, the nation would cease in most respects to be Japan and would become something else. They’d occupy the same geographic turf, and might retain some of the trappings here and there of Japan as it once was, but for all intents and purposes they would be a different nation.

All over the Western world, our nations are becoming non-Western. A century from now we will be a completely different nation than we would have been without the demographic transformation.

Just like global cooling in the 70’s and overpopulation scares... and global warming scares today...

Somehow God takes care of this country, the one true place of freedom in the world...

Ten years from now they will be lamenting the sudden baby boom of indigenous American babies... and by that I mean from legal citizens... and that will definitely include Caucasian non Hispanic as well.

They will all have run home to reap the benefits of the inevitable development of their own country’s resources.

It’s really not about brown black or white...it’s about love of this country and it’s Constitution and rule of law.

I am bullish on the American spirit.

Can’t blame it all on Kennedy. A people who won’t procreate their own replacements are doomed.
