I-25 in Denver to close during Obama’s speech
New Mexico Business Weekly ^ | August 15, 2008

Posted on 08/15/2008 4:26:24 PM PDT by beaversmom

Interstate 25 will be closed through downtown Denver while presidential candidate Barack Obama speaks at Invesco Field at Mile High on Aug. 28, officials said Friday.

A five-mile stretch of the freeway between U.S. 6 and Interstate 70 will close at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, the office of Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. I-25 will remain closed through the evening as Obama accepts the Democratic Party’s nomination as its presidential candidate on the final night of the Democratic National Convention.

The freeway will reopen after the program at Invesco Field concludes. “Thursday morning rush hour will not be affected,” the mayor’s statement said.

Commuters who would otherwise use I-25 can find an alternate route at the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Web site, www.dot.state.co.us.

Interstate 25 is the major north/south route for New Mexicans traveling to or through Colorado. It intersects with I-40 (the re-routed U.S. Hwy./Route 66) in Albuquerque at the "Big I."

The announcement ends weeks of speculation about whether the main freeway route through downtown Denver would have to shut down for security reasons during Obama’s speech a short distance away.

Several other downtown streets are being shut down or narrowed during the first three days of the DNC at the Pepsi Center, Aug. 25-27.

I guess this will still apply if Hillary Clinton is the nominee?

If that happens I doubt they’ll need a venue that large - part of the Democrat Party may stomp out angrily, hopefully not to riot and burn down most of Denver!

I would say that everyone in every state had better be ready if Hillary gets the nomination. We will definitely have some fire works going on and it won’t just be in Denver! I actually hope she gets it, we will see the end of the Democrat party as we know it today, and they will cease to be a major threat to us. I kinda hope Hillary runs as an Independent, pulling a Perot on the Democrats!

It should be, no cars will be traveling on it.

Everybody will be glued to their TV sets watched Obama accept the nomination.

As a matter of fact, the entire interstate highway system should shut down so nobody misses this historical event

Heck let's make it illegal not to see Obama accept the nomination

I think this is a reasonable security measure to protect Obama from an al Queda truck bomb or worse.

I also strongly suspect that Homeland Security knows of credible threats they are not telling us about.

I disagree with Obama on just about everything, but he must be vigorously protected in every way.

Real reason for this? They don’t want thousands of Republicans driving back and forth past the stadium for hours with their horns blaring.

Sh!t.
Shutting down the major route in Denver because his holiness is speaking.
Why doesn’t he just float above the crowd and speak so we can all hear.

Interesting enough, in Aramaic, “Barabbas” is spelled “Hillary”...

That’s common for presidential candidates. They shut down the 405 Freeway when Bush came to Orange County as a candidate, and as President.
