"We can say this: We're absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate, the Democratic National Convention, or the people of Colorado."

...

The cable network quoted one official as saying that the alleged plot may be nothing more than "some methed up yahoos high on drugs, talking out of their heads."

I don’t know about overhype. I notice it’s not on CNN’s front page any more and the places I saw or heard reported the statement that it didn’t seem to be a credible threat.

As opposed to what CNN anchors use to talk out of?

So did one of these meth heads only think he jumped, and survived, a 6 story fall from his hotel room as was earlier reported? "Hey, man. I'm flying!"

They were probably hoping that they were right-wing extremists who belonged to the militia and the KKK and attended a Christian Church.

Seems like good work by the Feds and Cops. Maybe this will stop the complaining about unfair police stops.

Four people were arrested in possession of rifles, ammunition, walkie talkies, a bullet proof vest, wigs, a spotting scope, licenses in the names of other people, and drugs. They all have arrest records, and warrants in many cases, and one is being held on $1 million bail.

One of the suspects had reportedly admitted to police that they were “going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a ... rifle ... sighted at 750 yards.” Authorities have said this may have been the plan but was not “credible” as likely to have any success.

Brian Maass of CBS4 asked the suspect, Nathan Johnson, age 32, “So your friends were saying threatening things about Obama?

His reply was “yeah.”

The plan, according to Johnson, was “kill Barack Obama at his acceptance speech.... He don’t belong in political office. Blacks don’t belong in political office. He ought to be shot.”

A press conference is set for this afternoon.

Supposedly, they were BSing with each other about using a rifle "sighted in for 750 yards" on a high-elevation down shot at their assassination target -- as if they were experienced with ballistic calculus.

There practicality of this is fantasy. Someone has been watching 'Shooter' on DVD too much and probably has a disturbing Marky Mark fixation.

750 yards with an 82mm mortar using HE rounds, sure. With a rifle? Not a bit likely unless you're a known world class shooter.

Maybe they are saying the threat itself was not credible. The plan was to shoot from a high vantage point and kill Obama while he was giving his acceptance speech at the stadium. I had Bronco season tickets for a while, and I can't think of anyplace outside the stadium high enough that you can see over the stands down onto the field. To have that line of sight, you would need to be up in a tall building close to the field...and I can't think of any building that fits that criteria.

It looks like these were just some meth-heads with a half-baked scheme who talked a big game. As such, they are not a ‘credible’ threat. Still, good work by the police..

I’m not sure, but it’s pretty obvious these losers couldn’t have done what they supposedly talked about.

Did those stoners understand there is no such "vantage point" at Invesco other than the stadium itself? I suppose they thought they could smuggle that rifle and other equipment past security??? And would not be spotted by the police chopper that has been over downtown the entire convention???

I have been pleasantly surprised by LE. They've been professional and very effective.

I concurr with your analysis and am shocked that Hillary would have hired folks with such poor logistics planning.
