Some just live in denial I guess. Bush's 8 years has been a travesty to the conservative movement.

President Bush Signs H.R. 4986, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 into Law
Today, I have signed into law H.R. 4986, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008. The Act authorizes funding for the defense of the United States and its interests abroad, for military construction, and for national security-related energy programs.
Provisions of the Act, including sections 841, 846, 1079, and 1222, purport to impose requirements that could inhibit the President’s ability to carry out his constitutional obligations to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, to protect national security, to supervise the executive branch, and to execute his authority as Commander in Chief. The executive branch shall construe such provisions in a manner consistent with the constitutional authority of the President.
GEORGE W. BUSH
THE WHITE HOUSE,
January 28, 2008.

My son in law is a MI officer in the Army...my daughter has her masters in education...neither one of them are dummies in the least and they’ll fight you defending President Bush. Denial is not a term I’d use on either one of them.

This is nothing new. Every 1950’s sci-fi flick shows giant spiders, bugs, aliens battling the US army on our home turf.
To: livius
but it is possible that it is because of the chance of a major terrorist attack around the time of the elections. That is the reason we have a military after all, to protect the country against *foreign* threats to our security.

Look, I served in the military under both Clinton and Bush. Clinton was/is a POS towards the military there's no denying that. However, all of the so called conservatives/Republicans were up in arms over the political military operation in Bosnia.
Why can't the same happen for the current situation as well. People have to start looking at things objectively and not be so partisan.

I wasnt aware that armytimes.com (the original source for the story I provided) was a troofer site. Almost worse than that, it's a Gannett subsidiary. Gannett does not allow FR to even post excerpts from it's stories. It's stories are often calculated to make the Military look bad. Even though it's sold in the BX/PX on all military installations (or it's sister pubs Navy and Air Force Times). They even sell it at Wally World near military bases.

He is career military and loves what he is doing. He returned not long ago from ‘Stan. As far as his security clearance is concerned its worth lots of $$$’s. If and when he retires...that clearance will give him a great advantage. For now they are at Bragg and are very content.

Yep, the clearance is worth a degree in itself.

There is a misconception about posse comittatus - it does ***not*** forbid all domestic operations. Posse commitatus only forbids the use of the Army for law enforcement - and that can be overridden by a Congressional authorization. The Insurrection Act is one such Congressional authorization.

We need a part of the military that is prepared to bring expertise to a situation such as a domestic nuclear explosion or an EMP attack, and we need a specially trained force that can fill in when a citys or a regions police force and firefighter force is dead or effectively destroyed and their equipment and infrastructure eliminated. we have such a part of the military. It's called the National Guard. They have always been exempt from the Posse Commitatus act, when not federalized.
However that 2007 amendment to the Insurrection at, is also an exception to PC, and scares the snot out of me, should BHO become President.

Doesnt this violate Posse Comitatus? It would but the Constitution has been dead for a while now. Just a discussion piece..... Sad..... PC is not part of the Constitution, never has been. It was actually passed to keep local sheriffs or other local "LEO" from going down the Army Fort and deputizing a bunch of soldiers to keep the "darkies" in their place. PC has always had an "except as specifically authorized by Congress" exception. Apparently last year, they made some more exceptions.

I swore to defend against **all** threats - not just foreign ones. Threats to the Constitution, not necessary to law and order.
BTW, I took the same, or similar oath, several times, the version with something about "obeying orders" only once, the others had no such stipulation.

My Dad was part of the 101st that sent to Little Rock in 1957 for school desegregation. So this is hardly the first time this has been done.

Oyarsa, it may be that the troofer stole part of of AT story, because he carried it quite a bit further.
I think you’ll find the AT story might be puffed up a little-(They are a Gannet publication)-and they sometimes go down odd political roads.
I looked for the story I had seen a week or two ago, but couldn’t find it again.
