WA-06: Dave Reichert Wins Re-Election (Good news from Wash)
Seattle Post-Intelligencer ^ | November 7, 2008 | Mike Barber

Bucking a Democratic trend, Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert has won re-election in Washington's 8th Congressional District, defeating two-time challenger Darcy Burner.

With almost 80 percent of the expected vote counted from Tuesday's election, Reichert's lead was nearing 8,000 votes Friday. Roughly 270,000 votes have been tallied.

Neither side had claimed victory or conceded Friday night.

"At this time, the Reichert campaign is declining comment to give the Burner campaign the opportunity to process the development," said Amanda Halligan, Reichert's campaign communications director.

Burner and her campaign staff could not be immediately reached for comment.

After a bruising and expensive campaign, Reichert successfully held off a strong run by Burner, who was challenging the former King County sheriff again after losing to him by just 3 percentage points in 2006.

The Reichert-Burner race was the state's only competitive congressional race. Combined, both candidates raised more than $5.8 million.

The 8th District sprawls through the suburbs and rural communities of eastern King and Pierce counties.

The tide was turning against Burner as officials in King and Pierce counties tallied more votes Friday.

Burner, a 37-year-old former Microsoft manager, led in the initial Election Day count of absentee ballots from King County, where 80 percent of the district's voters live.

Those ballots were mailed a week or more before Election Day, and the Burner campaign felt she was benefiting from the enthusiasm of Barack Obama supporters, who sent in their ballots early.

But Reichert, 58, pulled ahead in his quest for a third term as both poll votes and additional absentee ballots were added to the total.

No wonder he lost, he was a Microsoft manager.

My favorite pic of Reichert, staring down Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer.

Woooo! Hoooo!

Dave Reichert: 138,537 (51.47%)

Darcy Burner: 130,606 (48.53%)

What is not certain is how many votes from King County and Pierce County are left to count for this election. The Eighth Congressional District runs through these two counties and not all voters in these counties vote for these candidates.

King County with the more liberal and populous voters are giving Reichert a .67% edge. Pierce county with less voters is giving Reichert a 4.04% edge.

According to our news here in Seattle, Darcy has conceded.

So, although we are here behind enemy lines, we are doing our tiny bit to stem the red wave.

Darcy Burner is a complete bitch. It is a lone bright spot in Seattle politics to see this bitch lose.

My word. I thought that name looked familiar, so I googled Darcy Burner and I was right. She used to babysit me when I was a kid (1982 or so). She graduated high school with my older brother in Nebraska and her younger brother was one of my best friends growing up. I don’t think she said 10 words in 18 years. I have NO IDEA how she became someone who could run for congress.

That’s funny. A friend of mine used to babysit Alecia Moore, AKA “Pink”.

Gawd, that's the truth!

Every time that broad came on and said in that phony voice of hers, "I'm darcy burner and I approved this ad"...I had to walk out of the room to keep from throwing something thru the TV.

Burner is an extreme left-wing loon who wants desperately to get elected so she can make a career sucking the hind teet of the taxpayer. Her idol is Sen. Maria Cantwell - another former high-tech bimbo that figured out there’s better pay and perks as a political hack. Burner’s one of those that’ll just keep coming back. Wish there was a way to drive a stake thru her heart.

At first I thought it was a pic of Leslie Nielsen.

Job well done Mr. Reichert.

I heard on KVI that Darcy conceded. This is a huge victory for Reichert given the Obamanites and their independant stooges who thought a vote for a DemonRAT would teach those Republicans a lesson for all the damage they did to the economy.

Reichert leads now by more than 10000 votes.
