Inside the world of Google censors By Michelle Malkin • November 29, 2008 11:05 PM

Several weeks ago, I spoke with GWU law professor Jeffrey Rosen about my curious experiences with YouTube’s mystery censors. Longtime readers will remember the battle over “First, They Came.” For the past two years, my attempts to re-upload the little video about the Mohammed Cartoons and violent jihad were blocked. Other users were able to upload it, but it was blocked from my personal channel. Lo and behold, after Rosen inquired about it, the video is now available again.

As of Nov. 16, 2008, the clip was still banned. Here’s the cached screenshot (click for full-size):

As of Nov. 30, 2008, it has magically reappeared on my channel, with the option “Embedding disabled by request” — which, um, I did not choose.

Curiouser and curiouser. Wonders never cease!

Here’s the relevant part of Rosen’s piece on Google’s gatekeepers in the NYT, but make sure to click through and read Rosen’s entire piece for a penetrating look at GooTube’s inner chamber of content censors and their global impact:

I think those dissatisfied with TAKEITDOWN TUBE (that’s my nickname for that place) should seriously consider the creation of another similar site with better management policies. Google & the Tube have way too much power.

Google is owned by pro-Obama extremists and they're still working for him. I think it's funny, actually. The brats are gazillionaires and helped elect a Marxist.

Google & the Tube have way too much power.

What you seek already exists!

You might want to consider posting your "controversial" videos on this new CONSERVATIVE video website:

Excellent idea. I am in favor of FR creating a sister site called "Freetube".

Interesting. I thought Liveleak was the de-facto rightwing/con website due to the infamous Ted Nugent F*** Obama vid a year ago.

Huge storage requirements, huge bandwidth requirements.

In short very expensive.

Only those with very deep pockets can fund such a thing very long.

Well what are normal people waiting for? This is an opportunity to create a normal people’s youtube that accepts videos that tell un-PC truths.

"Huge storage requirements, huge bandwidth requirements."

It could be done if the "Freetube" site was a bulletin board of links and the storage and bandwidth overhead was left up to the individual posters. This would lessen the legal overhead and make political pressure that much harder to bring to bear.

That’s what peer to peer systems do.

Major lawsuits here in the US over them...

Those lawsuits are primarily over copyrighted content, not objectionable content.

(popmodal.com.) Great website! Never heard of it before.
First video I watched should be sent to everyone you know...

Youtube,Censorship,and Obama What’s the Connection?

http://popmodal.com/video/199/youtube-censorship-and-Obama-Whats-the-Connection

If we don’t spread the word this will NEVER be seen.

Maybe we should start timing how long it takes to shut these sites down and have a site where authors can post this information as evidence.

Google & the Tube have way too much power.

I guess the goverment needs to pass a law forbidding anyone (but the government, of course) from having "too much" power.
