After the Mumbai jihad there was a response of "Do good deeds." The Jews of Chabad (the sect that had its members tortured to death) asked for Jews to do "mitzvahs," good works. A yoga group that had some of its members killed believes that love will triumph. Then Deepak Chopra weighed in with his "think good thoughts" campaign. Chopra's effort has the "magic" of if a million people pledge to think good thoughts the world will change for peace. All of these efforts may be summarized by one phrase: Be Nice.

I used to believe that there was nothing wrong with islam itself, that it was only a few misguided adherents that were tarnishing everyone else with a bad name.
No more. While there are a few good muslims, islam itself is horribly flawed and, if taken to its logical conclusion, produces the results that we see in, say, Mumbai, or NYC on 9/11.
Evil is a perversion of good. Many things that LOOK good can cause evil in the long run. Like giving Homeless people a break in San Francisco—now its overrun with pan handlers. Same with forgiveness. Should the Jews have forgiven the Nazi murderers? NO. Sometimes being harsh is the best thing for people. Tough Love is what its called. America needs to be realistic with her population and let them know that in the end—we need to find our own solutions. Katrina and New Orleans should have brought home this message.
A timely reminder, as I gird myself to talk to Elder Daughter about the grades she just brought home from the expensive private college. Thanks?
