GOP power struggle starts
Washington Times ^ | Dec. 26, 2008 | Ralph Z. Hallow

A power struggle that will determine the future leadership of the Republican Party has broken into the open as dissatisfied Republican leaders pushed for a meeting early next month that they hope will be the first step toward ending Washington-based control of the party.

In a move seen as a backlash against years of control of the Republican National Committee (RNC) by allies of President Bush and their District-based consulting firms, several senior members of the party's governing body are working to call an extra meeting to hear from all candidates for national chairman three weeks before the election for the post is scheduled.

The effort is seen by party insiders as an attempt to allow all six candidates for chairman to have an equal shot at the job, rather than giving an edge to the incumbent chairman, Robert M. "Mike" Duncan.

Please let it be so.

McCain just proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the rino middle-of-the-road approach to winning elections does not work. Time to go back to the Reagan coalition of real conservatism.

It’s not going to be easy, erasing the taint of of George “Bailout the UAW” Bush.

With all due respect to the fine gentleman from Kentucky, Screw You “Mike”!

You've been a disaster leading us into a horrible candidate, a horrible platform, horrible candidates for congress, and we got slaughtered in fund-raising.

Step down, retire, and try to wash away your shame with some excellent Kentucky Bourbon.

Make way for Michael Steele and dig the new breed.

It’s time for a new party. The GOP owns the coming depresion even though they didn’t start it. The perception has been created and perception is reality in politics. The people are angling to lead a carcass. If conservatives have any chance of making a comeback it is certainly not as Republicans. We need a party where we control it rather than just being one of many factions. Conservatism is a political movement and we need our own party to make a home. I know that many republicans refuse to face reality and continue to cling to the carcass of what once was the party of Reagan. Well, Reagan is dead and so is the GOP. The only way to keep Reagan’s ideas and conservatism is definitely not with the GOP.

I’ve got news for the GOP “leaders”... and that includes even the good ones like Palin and Jindal.

If the “Republican” Party doesn’t end cross-over voting in the early primaries then it doesn’t matter what else happens, they will continue to nominate demo-turds like McNasty.

If they can’t fix THAT, they can’t fix ANYTHING and they are all worthless.

I am never voting for another spineless “R” again, as long as I live. I’d rather spend the time on election day getting in some extra target practice.

McCain was not middle of the road. He was the party’s maverick who voted with the Dems on major issues. We were offered an echo, not a choice.

A power struggle over virtually no power. The way I see it, the republicrat party has about one more chance to get it right or it’s curtains for them. Unlike liberals, conservatives hold their reps responsible for the type of crap they have pulled.

The RINOpublican Party is dead.

The buzzards need to do their work quickly to remove the stench, and prevent disease from spreading.

Hint: The corporate crooks who gave us Nixon, Ford, Rockefeller, and the Bushes give money to both sides. They don't care if Republicans win; what they DON'T want is conservatives to win. Reagan was an aberration in Republican history.

The GOP will continue to waste its money asking me for donations as long as I know it supports “DEMOCRAT-LITE” rather than “CONSERVATIVE.”

If I want to give to a liberal, I’ll give to the DNC.

I only gave directly to candidates across the country this year.

If conservatives can’t take over the GOP they certainly can’t make a “new party” work. Any such effort (which is not happening btw) would only split the votes and democrats would win everything.

It's not an issue of taking over the GOP. The GOP is tainted and will be even more tainted by the coming economic mess which the MSM which is how most Americans get their news will paint as a GOP created disaster. Republicans will in effect own the depression much as they did the last one. Only a new untainted party has any hope of taking back the country. The country club republicans that got us into this morass are and Will still be in charge of the party. Reagan made the mistake of compromising with them (Bush 1) and not sacking the rinos out of the party. The result is that they used Conservatives for their votes while at the same time playing go along to get along with the left. The result is that we now have a solidly democratic power base which will be difficult to extricate and a populace that will see little incentive to vote GOP as long as they believe that republicans are responsible for the economic mess because the MSM told them so.

Ping me if the GOP decides it wants to pursue smaller, less intrusive government and the restoration of the Bill of Rights as top priorities. Until then, they won’t be getting a vote from me.

Couldn't agree more. But it isn't going to be easy or inexpensive to get a viable Conservative party into national contention.

The best thing that could happen for the Republic is that a majority of citizens get fed up with "both" political parties and start supporting individuals.

The political party system is the number one thing wrong in our Republic as warned by our first President 212 years ago.
