GOP power struggle starts
Washington Times ^ | Dec. 26, 2008 | Ralph Z. Hallow

A power struggle that will determine the future leadership of the Republican Party has broken into the open as dissatisfied Republican leaders pushed for a meeting early next month that they hope will be the first step toward ending Washington-based control of the party.

In a move seen as a backlash against years of control of the Republican National Committee (RNC) by allies of President Bush and their District-based consulting firms, several senior members of the party's governing body are working to call an extra meeting to hear from all candidates for national chairman three weeks before the election for the post is scheduled.

The effort is seen by party insiders as an attempt to allow all six candidates for chairman to have an equal shot at the job, rather than giving an edge to the incumbent chairman, Robert M. "Mike" Duncan.

I can’t tell you what a silly fantasy that is. Magical real conservative party drives the GOP out of business and then beats the democrats right? Or this third party threat ‘forces’ them to wise up and move right That’s how it’s supposed to go? Wouldn’t happen. Instead the vote would just be split everywhere and rats would win well over 2/3 of Congress and the legislatures and then they could amend the freaking Constitution. Obama would win a plurality in 45+ states in his reelection bid. Makes a lot more sense to reconservatives the Republican party. If conservatives a smart or numerous enough to do that we sure as hell can’t build a new party from scratch and magically make it succeed. LOL.

“Only a new untainted party has any hope of taking back the country. “

A)No “taint” is permanent. Especially in the land of short attention spans.

B)Any new party would be made up of people who were Republicans and would be labeled (correctly) by the media as the same party with a different name.

Anyway this silliness is not happening.

The country club republicans that got us into this morass are and Will still be in charge of the party.

The people are angling to lead a carcass.

Will the GOP call this the carcass caucus?

You're hoping everyone will quickly forget Bush and his arrogant band of corrupt party members, that forgot long ago who the hell they actually work for?

Too true. They tried to sell ‘maverick’ as a positive thing.

I remember a poll on WND or KABA that asked if I would vote for McCain! I couldn’t believe they even asked the question!!!

“Not a moment too soon. Or, better late than never. The GOP sorely needs to have this fight.

Boot all the worthless RINOs/Bushies, and replace them with genuine conservatives.

The party platform needs to be no more complex than:

* Limited government, per the letter & spirit of the Constitution
* Minimal taxation
* Maximum freedom
* Personal responsibility
* Deep respect for American culture, tradition & morals
* Robust national defense (by a focused FedGov that does little else)!”

bump of truth

Post like yours are rather humorous and one has to wonder if you have been involved or involved in your “LOCAL and State” politics?

Most who post online and opine that they are Conservative minded aren’t involved in anything but whining or bragging that they didn’t vote.

As for W, he’ll look like a nice walk in the park on a beautiful spring day compared to Obama.

Honestly, headlines will never read “The Post that changed the world”.

Texas has had a republican majority since Boosh was Gov. and has more new laws,fee increases, and regulations during that time than any other comparable period.

“I can’t tell you what a silly fantasy that is.”

And I can tell you what the grim reality of the present is. Even if by some miracle the GOP were to rebuild, it would still be, at best, a centrist political party. The years of Ronald Reagan that so many of us cling to are long over, and I think they were an aberration in the first place. The GOP isn’t a conservative political party and never will be, at least in the long term. Long term defined as more than one week after the November election cycle.

A conservative third party need not drive the GOP out of business. The GOP has done a pretty good job of that all on it’s own.

Admittedly, conservatives don’t have a lot to work with right now. But we never have had much to work with.

So why should we support Republicans? Florida is ridiculous. There is a state employee around every tree and sales tax is through the roof. You have to have a license or permit for everything imaginable. It is horrible. Republicans are just as bad as Democrats. And now they want to ressurect Jeb Bush. I say NO!

Interesting discussion. I’ll weigh in: It will be World War 3 that returns our nation back into a Republic, the threat of going extinct in other words and make no mistake about it, we’ll be close to extinction before it’s through.

I am never voting for another spineless “R” again, as long as I live. I’d rather spend the time on election day getting in some extra target practice.

You said it Brother!

Having tried every other method to get the party elite's attention, I've come to the conclusion that this is the only way. My liberal "republican" brother-in-law is the perfect example of what's wrong with the party. And yet, the leadership cannot see it - they are blinded by their east-coast, ivy-league elitist facade to see the the damage that they are causing in the real world.

Besides, one can never get enough target practice!

As long as they don’t try and get some “Let’s drive out the Christians” type of guy...

Like the age old axiom that gave us Reagan, "Republicans can't win with just social conservatives alone but the Republicans can't win without them either". Even G.W. Bush hid his true colors and ran as a social and won but once he let his true colors ("Compassionate Conservatism = unbridled Liberalism) become known his popularity and aproval ratings started heading south and never looked back since.

RINO's and Liberalism are the death knell for Republicans.

Here we go again. That will not work. It sounds so wonderful and we can be so pure which will make us feel good and so superior. Please tell me where you're going to get large enough numbers with which to win an election.

We must remain together and try to convince enough others to join us and also convince them that it is in their own best interest to vote for conservatives and conservative caucuses.

The problem with human nature is that we cannot even agree among ourselves as to who is the most conservative.

It is a very sad fact that we need every RINO we can get. I'd be happy to replace them with conservatives but alone, we do not have the votes to win an election. This is a fact. It takes at least 50 percent plus one to win an election.

Let's look at this realistically.

I want to defeat RINOS in primaries but we must hold together in general elections.

4) Start advertising on black and Hispanic radio and TV with CONSERVATIVE themes and explain how Democrats have made minorities lives miserable since the 60s

Not to mention aiding and abetting the vast diminution of their numbers via abortions performed by Planned Parenthood, a favorite Dem designee of tax dollars.

The function of any political party or movement is to attract and convert as many adherents as it can to it's philosophy. That was Reagan's approach and it worked. When parties become catch all parties that try to satisfy as many people as possible they begin to lose because in the end they have no principles to fall back on.

In New York state we have a conservative party, when it was true to it's principles it forced republicans to veer to the right because without the endorsement and votes of conservatives they could not win elections. Under the leadership of current chairman Mike Long it became a patronage party more interested in jobs than principles and thus lost any central influence that it had. A principled conservative party need not have a majority, it serves to act as a funnel forcing republicans to move to the right to attract it's endorsement and making many races more competitive. The New York State Conservative Party in it's principled ideological heyday did actually manage to elect a senator, James Buckley (brother of William). I strongly believe that the day of centrist catch all parties has not been beneficial for our republic. It has led to the creation of a class of "professional politicians" who prostitute themselves for votes and stand for nothing more than themselves. A principled party will in turn gain more support from a larger segment of the population and may have a salutary effect on the political discourse of ideas.
