Down to single digits in his days left in office, President George W. Bush is warning the Republican Party not to become "anti-immigrant" as it regroups from defeat and retools its leadership.
"It's very important for our party not to narrow its focus, not to become so inward looking that we drive people away from a philosophy that is compassionate and decent," the departing president said in an interview broadcast Sunday, nine days before his term ends. "My call for our party is to be open-minded."

I’m not anti-immigrant. I’m anti-illegal immigrant.
W, don’t let the door hit you on the ass.
I can’t BELIEVE it’s come to the point that this is my opinion of him.
How about blasting the commie policies of Obama instead of his own party?
George, just get the hell out of here.
Thank you for reminding us again what a useless liberal you are Mr. President. And thank you for trashing the GOP. What a lousy excuse for a President this man has been. The GOP must learn from its mistakes. Most importantly, “open primaries” must disappear. Never again must a GOP candidate be picked by Liberals and “independents”.
As an aside, what signifies “open-minded” people in the immigration debate is that they are capable of thinking thoughts not pre-approved by the New York Times.
By golly, that has worked so well in the last two elections!
What a tool.
You beat me! Selected, educated and legal and I have no problem! All the others tag them before the enter, bing them in, track them in real time and kick them out when the fruit is picked! No exceptions!
Oh, I didn’t get the memo. Are we supposed to shut up about his dereliction of duty? Not going to happen. ;0)
I'm not anti-friends in my home, I'm anti- thieves ...
I think Washington and the left got to him. Geez he was lambasted from day one relentlessly. I wish the left would fight our enemies like they fought Bush. Hell, we’d be out of the Middle East and everyone would be singing cumbaya by now.
But they won't. So-called Conservatives (I realize that Conservatives and Republicans are not the same thing) are now toying with the Huckster (Huckabee). Touting him like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. When will they ever learn? My guess is, never.
Indeed, if you are certain that you are correct, that is right, that is on the side of absolute truth, DON’T cave in to the liberal mindset. Liberal sympathizers are cowardly with no moral conviction.
Well, the Republicans just can’t lose from now on. We’ve got W giving advice and McCain forming a PAC to help shape the future of the party.
What a bright future the party has if it’ll just listen to those two RINOs.
And they both believe in global warming.
We gave George a majority in both houses....
Lookie now what he is leaving us with....calls us bigots because we want the laws upheld.
Does he even know what a jerk he has become?
Exactly and something President Bush never seemed to understand. Will welcome legal immigrants but not going to ever welcome illegals.
