NH Republicans Want Red Light Cameras

Two New Hampshire GOP House members have added their names to a Legislative Service Requestion seeking to introduce a bill allowing red light cameras in the Granite State.

House members Ken Hawkins (R-Bedford) and John A Graham (R-Bedford) have joined NH State Senator Sheila Roberge (R-Bedford) in sponsoring LSR 2009-S-0874-R, titled "authorizing the electronic enforcement of traffic signal violations."

Red light cameras snap a digital photo of vehicles caught inside the intersection when the the signal changes from yellow to red, not just those entering the intersection after the signal changes to red. With no video to contest the situation drivers are forced to pay the fine.

Companies that operate red light cameras often collect a percentage of each ticket.

Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc. and Gatso USA are both sponsers of the "National Campaign to Stop Red Light Running" http://www.stopredlightrunning.com The campaign was founded by ACS State and Local Solutions.

Red light cameras are about revenue. They decrease red light running but cause an increase in rear end collisions at intersections. Increasing the amount of all red time at intersections has been shown to be just as if not more effective than red light cameras.

Red light cameras are a public-private scam to generate revenue and profits at the expense of due process.

They could make a hell of a lot more money if they would just put a toll gate at each red light.

(Sigh) Both my state rep and my state senator. Letters to be sent today in opposition - it’s about revenue, not safety.

We had them for three months. The cost out weighed what our could fund. We removed them. Not Worth it.

I’m sure with a little ingenuity, they can be made to take pictures of the heavens.

I laughed myself silly when the juridiction I work in went with this “sweetheart” deal with the red light manufacturers. Free money they exclaimed.

But, people stopped running the lights and now the city can’t make the payments and maintenance bills. Scammed suckers!

Interesting that all these RINOs are from Bedford, NH.

Bedford has a *LOT* of traffic lights on Rte 101, the only major East/West highway in NH. This is just a way for the town to enrich themselves at the state’s expense.

I don’t think it has a chance of passing, and the good people of Bedford are likely to take note of these RINOs.

The down side is that we are likely to have three more DemoncRATs in the state house next election.

Sure, it’s more about revenue than safety. But it’s still worse than that. It’s about even more control. Legislators have to legislate. That’s who and what they are. Always a new law, a new regulation, a new program or scheme. More government less individual autonomy. Have you noticed an increasing proliferation of signs on streets, roads and highways. Always more, never any taken away. In my area there are numerous intersection that have two or three sets of traffic lights for each direction when one would be more than adequate.

> What happened? Did the Massholes start a campaign to turn NH blue?

We’ve had an invasion of Mass residents moving up here to escape the horrendous tax burdens and bureaucracy of Massachusetts.

Unfortunately, they did not change their voting patterns.

Anyone voting for this should be booted out of the GOP. They have no clue what it means to be a free citizen.
