(Mark) Dayton files papers to run for Minnesota governor

Former Sen. Mark Dayton has filed papers to run for governor in 2010.

The Democrat on Friday said he won't make a formal public announcement about his campaign until spring.

For now, Dayton has registered with the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board.

Dayton, a multimillionaire who self-funded his 2000 campaign for the Senate, did not seek re-election in 2006.

Others who have filed with the board are Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner, state Sen. Tom Bakk (bock), state Rep. Paul Thissen (TEE'-sen), state Sen. John Marty and frequent candidate Ole Savior.

Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty has said he will announce this year whether he will seek a third term.

I think I'm gonna be ill.

This trust fund loser accomplished absolutely nothing during his six years as a US Senator and before that, as State Auditor.

Most Democrats have been less than thrilled about him and backed him only because he was a self-funding candidate.

And yes, this was the same Mark Dayton who closed his DC office a few years back because of some unexplained and unsubstantiated threat to the Capitol.

Comments or opinions - anyone?

MplsSteve,

The worry I would have had if I still lived there is who the heck on the GOP side will run? For that matter, who would run that even pretends to be a tax cutting representative of the people.

Before Franken got given the Senate seat I never would have thought it was possible, but after driving around town for work this week and seeing all of the Franken bumper stickers, I would fully expect Dayton to run and win. I’m thinking Minnesota is a lost cause period...most people living there just don’t know it yet.

I am very sad for my former home.

Wasn’t Mark Dayton found hiding under his desk at some point related to the 9/11 attack ?

Basically yes he was...even the majority of Minnesotans found that to be absurd...of course its a State that voted in Jesse the Body and now Al “cokefiend” Franken. Its times like this you wish that only those that vote for these idiots suffer the consequences...

Half of MN is dumb enough to vote for Dayton. Rybleck just announced his re-election plans too. Sigh. This is what we get in MN I guess. I will just keep donating to my Rep. Michele Bachmann so she keeps getting elected.

Good lord. A year ago I would’ve said this guy didn’t have a chance because of how lousy he was as a senator, but nothing surprises me in this state anymore..

John Kline and Micehle Bachmann are the only people who keep me from just moving to South Carolina or something.

A machine democrat wants to run for governor.

This is news?

Wake me when the counting is over and the Donkey apparatchik becomes governor.

Frankenstein must’ve inspired him. The only reason he quit the Senate in ‘06 is because he believed he’d lose reelection.

"And yes, this was the same Mark Dayton who closed his DC office a few years back because of some unexplained and unsubstantiated threat to the Capitol."

I well remember little Markie's embarrassing episode of premature evacuation. Evidently, he doesn't think he's embarrassed himself and Minnesota enough, yet.
