ORANGE COUNTY - The man killed earlier this month while apparently trying to rob a customer at an Orange County carwash was identified Wednesday as Jonathan Washington, 21. Investigators said they think Washington was involved in several other robberies in the county. The Jan. 9 robbery attempt at the carwash at 5101 S. Orange Blossom Trail was similar to five other robberies within a mile of the area, investigators said. Washington was charged in 2006 with carrying a concealed weapon. He was acquitted. Washington was shot by a man who told deputies that two men approached him, one with a shotgun, and tried to rob him. The victim, who has a concealed-weapons permit, pulled out a handgun and shot Washington, authorities said. The other suspect ran away. Two witnesses corroborated the victim's story, and detectives consider the shooting a case of self-defense.

Idiot jury! On the plus side, their acquittal results in the taxpayers never having to feed, house or guard him again.

Carrying a concealed weapon shouldn’t even be a chargeable offense. It’s a bogus law that allows police to bully people that they can’t pin anything else on. It can be used to ruin the lives of otherwise law abiding citizens trying to protect themselves. The government does not have the right to deny us the God given right to protect ourselves. And, before I get flamed for standing up for criminals over cops, the proper response is criminalize and prosecute the use of a firearm in the furtherance of a crime, ala O.J. Simpson.

It’s nice to see that the Orlando Sentinel’s writer and/or editor is able to correctly identify the “victim” in this story.

And they didn’t say, “...a robbery gone wrong”.

When the perp dies, a robbery goes “right”.
