He was acting. He seemed to stifle laughing several times.

The family were members of some sort of commune that had ties to some sort of cult allegations.

Yes. The cult was called "Children of God." The allegations included sanctioned sex with children. Some victims commited suicide; one of them created a video of his last days. Can't remember the title or source of the video. HollyWEIRD indeed.

A couple times it looked like he was trying not to laugh.

Additionally, somebody is doing a documentary on him or something, and the rumor is this is part of an advertising campaign for it.

That being said, if he's acting, he deserves an Oscar for it.

I personally was amazed at how polite Joaquin was. Letterman mocked him from the gitgo. How many of us would like to be mocked on a national TV show for our appearance and our career aspirations? Letterman is a jerk.

This is what happens when a self absorbed moron gets money. I bet he has ideas of fixing the economy and is finally a patriot now that Obama won the election.

If he couldn't act in movies, he's still be at the local McDonalds. But because he is an actor, we are supposed to follow his life and hang on every verbal utterance he makes.

A lesson from all this is money doesn't make you smart. I get so frustrated at people bringing up what some millionaire says, no matter what the subject, no matter how they made their money. Warren Buffet is called the Oracle from Omaha, but has lost about 40% of his companies money in a year or so. I would trust his judgment over what Cher says, but she gets a platform all the time.

One of my all time favorite movies.

But today, we are looking for "Signs" that he is not on drugs.

I think so too. After all, he is an actor. Acting like he did on Letterman would not be a stretch.
Also, I read somewhere that his brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, was there filming all of this. I think they are up to something.

Dunno if he is on drugs. Probably just a shy person. This article about previous appearances to flog his films is interesting:

How much Xanax is he on?

I don't think he was on any-he was twiddling his thumbs, and bouncing his leg that was crossed over his knee. I think he thinks he is going to be hip hop Borat.

I remember seeing an interview one time with an assistant to Freddie DeCordova , he of the Johnny Carson show. The topic was Johnny’s amazingly quick wit and retort, his ability to go out of the script. The man looked straight at the camera saying that if you think that most of that was ad- libbed, you’re nuts. There was very little of Johnny’s supposed spontaneity that wasn’t scripted or outlined with the guest before the show. Johnny had the best writers in the business. I would expect that David does too.

i think it was an act. His quiting acting to become a singer turned out to be part of a documentary. I think Letterman was in on it.

The parents named their kids River, Joaquin, Summer, Liberty and Rain.

Based on the stories, this was the nicest thing that their parents ever did for them.

I wish he’d cut it out with the scruffy look.

He’s one of the best looking men I’ve ever seen.

Yes, all of you that think he is on drugs......

They would not have let him go on. His Manager would not have let him go on nor would the the Network.

Lighten up people; this is the type of humour that the young ones of today love.

It was all an act. If you watch the video linked from Drudge you will see him out of the chair with the shades off telling Letterman "nice job". Has to be for the film Affleck is making
