Some of the stats are incredible.
In any case, to the extent that it represents America attracting some of the world's best and brightest, can't be all bad.

To get some things straight... From India's One-BILLION population we are attracting mostly educated, ambitious and skilled types. Same goes for China. It's no surprise that the IQ and success of their respective immigrants in the US is remarkable.
The Ashkenazi Jews are more remarkable because they are a TINY overall population... (yet somehow their intelligence seldomly translates politically).
If one is looking for more succesful, bright immigrant communities... Persians. They are relatively the most affluent minority and crank out PhDs. Why? Because the bright, enlightened and affluent ones came here when their home country went down the river 1979.

In 2007, the median income of households headed by an Indian American was approximately $83,000, compared with $61,000 for East Asians and $55,000 for whites.Indian-Americans are 3% of the nation's engineers, 7% of its IT workers and 8% of its physicians and surgeons.
So, those IT workers aren't exactly doing the jobs Americans don't want to do.

Almost all immigrant groups pass through the same phases of small business, criminality, entertainment, etc. etc. etc. Today the process takes much longer and the process may have even been distorted or evolved to some degree.

Here's the catch -- the US DID attract the smartest people from Europe, from Asia and from India. However, now, with the downturn in the economy, not many are biting AND, more importantly, recent US immigration laws which prefer unskilled labor from Mexico to highly skilled migrants from Asia and India, mean that many folks from there are saying "I may as well stay home and do something here".
The same happenned earlier with immigrants from Japan and Korea

I live in the part of the country (Route One Corridor in Central New Jersey) with the highest concentration of Indians in the United States. Working in finance, I know work with more Indians than black and hispanics combined. Compared to most ethnic groups in this country (including European ethnics) Indian Americans are driven, enterpreneurial, law abiding, and (generally) intelligent. However, whether Sikh, Hindu, or Jain, most tend to be conservatives of the heart, but liberals of the brain.

Indians from India are intelligent, work hard, and are super achievers. They don’t commit much crime, they don’t chop their wives’ heads off, they don’t fly planes into buildings.
Therefore they will never be included among the victim groups.

The author gives little thought to the cultural differences that Indian immigrants bring to this country and to make the statement that these people are a model of immigration policy is unbelievable naive.
When we think of immigrants overwhelming our health care systems, taking advantage of entitlement programs and not assimilating, all too often we think of people from south of our border or from the Middle East. We need to recognize that immigrants from India and China are also part of the problem.
