This is how the pro-fairness doctrine liberals speak to each other. They don’t see, (or at least act like they see), the fairness doctrine as censorship. No, the bad corporations are already censoring the airwaves. They just want to give everyone a chance.
I used to listen to Peter B before KNBR in San Francisco was all-sports. Leo LaPorte used to do a general-interest local talk show on KNBR, too. Peter B was okay then, not ideological, a good interviewer. I lost track of him in about 1990. Now I know.
Funny you bring up Malloy. IIRC a week after Nova M went under, Malloy was syndicated and back on the air almost overnight. Rhodes has been at it a month a still not a peep. Could it be that when working in a niche market, it’s not a good idea to alienate half of your few listeners by calling their favorite person a whore like Rhodes did about Hillary. Or get falling down drunk and then blame it on others. Can you kids say unreliable?
Yes. Meanwhile on that same yahoo group, someone objects to the fact that Sirius bills its right wing channel as “Patriot” while the left wing version is just “America Left”
(they’re saying, we’re patriotic too!) I have XM and “Sirius Patriot” is just “America Right” there
Seriously, they're not selling anything unique. It's just the same obsessions, with the same talking points, as the nightly news, with a few extra obscenities thrown in. They're redundant.
Right-wing talk rules the radio because you can't get it anywhere else. Now, if the FCC died and there were no more signal monopolies grandfathered to the Lefty mafia of ABCNBCCBSCNN, there would be a free market in broadcast television, and it would become practically objective. Right-wing talk radio would take a hit. It wouldn't die, because it actually serves an audience.
Exactly.
Now, this from a _comment_ on the LiberalTalkRadio blog:
“I can’t believe Peter B. his hanging it up, for whatever reason. Malloy is spot on: GODDAMN the rich liberals who don’t spend a single freakin penny on progressive radio. Thanks for nothing, twits, cowards, dirtbags.”
C’mon Mr. Kerry—the wife has $700 million...buy some
stations and put libtalk on. It’ll do well! :)
Not. Having. Been. Given.
How did they get to be so special? Work for it like everyone else, kids.
$ponser$, SponserS, $ponser$, brings in $$$$$, got it?
Lynn Samuels is on satellite now but is fun to listen too and made money on terrestrial radio.
Neil Rogers is another example of a leftist who puts on a damn fine show and brings in tons of money .
Now that blowhard idiot Ed Schultz is another example of someone who can't compete or make money on terrestrial radio, brings in zero ad revenue and ratings, and is only still on the air because he is President Ragheads favorite radio host.
OR.....OR.......OR Maybe know one wanted to listen to him. Just a thought. Lefties have tunnel vision and short attention spans.
The Fairness Doctrine: The Air America Bailout Bill
Next the “evil Clear Channel” network decided to take what Air America Radio was offering for free, put it on their underpreforming stations, and doubled AAR station count overnight. Rather than trying to work up a good listener base and bring in advertisers, they decided the only important thing was to get AAR on 100 stations. In the end of that pipe dream AAR only ended up with around 90 stations. Now they're on around 60 stations and lose those to sports, gospel, and Spanish formats that can bring in some money.
I tuned in for a few moments. They were discussing Bush stealing elections. Still!
Now I am proud of being RIGHT!
And more stations are changing format. I note that in Grand Rapids the libtalk station is changing to business radio
(just like “Obama 1260” in Wash DC became “Money 1260”).
>>sports, gospel, and Spanish formats that can bring in some money.
in New England the progtalk stations:
PORTLAND ME: to sports and now oldies
PROV RI: to conservative talk
BOSTON: 2 stations—Spanish
BURL VT: to women’s talk
NEW HAVEN: to sports
Peter has sand in his vagina
Free market. It sucks when you suck.....”
Great one liner!
FReepers are so smart and witty!
We had Ed Schultz on here in south central pa. He lasted about 30 days with the only sponsor the state teachers union.
I used to tune into the Error America station in Reno just to check out the sponsors. I’m no radio producer, but I doubt if the Ad Council is much of a cash cow in terms of advertising.
Speaking of Boston-area talk radio, I do miss Howie Carr’s show. Anyone have a good URL where his program is available online?
